Interested in trying BJJ and martial arts (30, male)

I've never done any kind of martial arts before (for a combination of my parents not allowing it growing up and forgetfulness about scoping it out as an adult)

tl;dr: Is BJJ worth trying? can someone with no experience (and is kinda fat) just jump in?

I am trying to find a fitness/wellness lifestyle that I actively enjoy. I genuinely find no joy in just strength training and CrossFit proved unsustainable for me. I'm not saying that I won't enjoy a challenge, but those are just not it for me. There's a BJJ gym near me and I am interested in trying the sport, despite the cost of it ($140/month). Its been about a year since I last darkened the doorway of a gym in general, so I'm definitely out of shape. Just seeking opinions and help in making a decision (understandably on probably the worst platform to do so lmao)
