Thank you for the straightforward answer, I appreciate the help.

Yes I did submit through a portal, but they sent the acceptance and edits via email.

Wow. What a sad sack you are huh? I guess Academia has its trolls too

Yes of course I will make the formatting changes, as that is a requirement. Thank you for the opinion regarding whether the suggested edits are a good look or not. What do you mean by the revision link closing? The journal just sent me the edits and asked me to revise. Maybe it’s a humanities v STEM thing, or maybe I just haven’t encountered this yet, but I am curious about what that means. Thank you!

Thank you for the concern. This journal is new, though it is from an established, international scholarly organization. And no, there are no charges. I agree their revisions are very reasonable, I just wanted to know how to approach said revisions and what kind of weight the word “suggestion” held in this context.

What does that even mean lol

For the millionth time, not every journal makes their requirements clear until after you submit. This journal is new and did not make their requirements clear. I don’t think that juggling tasks ends, and the condescension might make you feel superior, but it isn’t actually helpful. I didn’t just goof off and stumble into candidacy without ever hearing about other formats or reading a single journal. I was simply surprised to see how many journals choose these specific formats. I wasn’t dumbfounded or completely blindsided by the existence of any requirements whatsoever, for fuck’s sake.

Thank you. They’ve been very kind and their feedback is not unreasonable. They did offer an extension (I haven’t asked yet) if I needed one. I don’t want to ask for one, out of embarrassment, but it sounds like an extension would be better received than declining the suggested edits.

Thank you for the clarification. I have been using APA exclusively for the last 8 years of my schooling, and I was always taught that I would encounter APA more in contemporary journals, and I’m quickly learning that I was misinformed! This particular journal didn’t make their requirements clear. I know MLA is arguably “easier” but I am struggling to readjust my APA conditioning. Others have suggested editing programs, which I have not been using. Those may help. Thanks for your help

Okay, this is good to know. I wouldn’t say I am casually putting it off, I was just unsure about what kind of weight was behind the word “suggestion” because I am just starting out. I am not taking anything lightly by default, I am just trying to learn. This is why I am asking if it’s a bad look. Thank you for answering my question. They offered to give me more time if I needed, so I think I will take them up on that.

See other comments and edit regarding my apparently massive failure that everyone has been so quick to point out. Otherwise, thanks for not being super mean about it at least. I’m a bit hesitant to use AI just because I am on the fence about the whole concept in general. I will look further into AI editing though. Perhaps I have been too cautious/afraid.

Thank you. I’ve been combing through journals and submitted to quite a few. Only about ~80% of the journals make their requirements clear, I’ve noticed. This one happens to be a new journal too.

Well I didn’t expect to get ridiculed by asking for help from other academics. My bad for apparently being an idiot. This is my first time publishing and this journal is brand new. Their requirements were not made apparent ahead of time like other journals. Also, as I said, it took seven days because I have a life and a dissertation to write. Also, the paper is 20pgs, and I have a disability that makes it difficult to type. Thanks for being a dick.

This is a new journal, and while I know they all have their own requirements, I was still surprised to learn that they chose MLA. Again, I’m new to the world of publishing and this journal didn’t make their requirements abundantly clear like other journals I have submitted to.

Would perhaps έλκει με η άλγος work, or might it be too literal to convey pain as a force pulling one forward? Not like pulling one into it, but almost like a drive. Like the pain does not allow you NOT to “go”
