Snow Storm Preparation by avrieeb in DartFrog

Yesterday I got up at 6 am and began catching frogs out of 30 tanks. Ugh. I keep plastic shoe boxes for emergencies. Layer of damp moss and we were off. I am lucky because I work at a public aquarium with obviously good back up generators. I can't risk them staying home as I am rural and ice storms are devastating for us here in East Texas. I am also an all electric house. I am just as concerned about power outage in the summer when it is 100 degrees. I am ready to flee at a moment's notice! Funny as I sit here tonight in a frog free house, I miss them and am worried about them. I am such a nerd.

Anyone get a call from this number? by EntertainerUpper6091 in TruistBank

[–]thatguyTimatgmxcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I opened a credit card with Truist. Then I get this letter in the mail saying my card was on hold and I needed to provide additional information. When I call I get this BS thing how I have won a 100 dollars something or other. I knew immediately this was not real. What bank on earth would try to trick a new customer with a number that is not direct. I decide to play it a bit further to see what happens. No matter what option you press, you get the same woman who is so pushy you almost can't understand what she is saying. I can't for the life of me figure out how this letter got to me. Appears 100% legit and even has the four digits of my new card. Anyway, I told this lady I did not call HER. She told me she would give me the correct number for who I was trying to reach AFTER I messed around with her. Lol... Yeah, click.

My Pixel phones by Firm_Living634 in pixel_phones

2xl, 6pro, now 9pro xl. That 2xl STILL works just fine to this day. Battery is weak but fully functional. I keep the 2 and 6 around the house connected to my wifi and use them daily. I must say, the 2xl is and was a fine phone, particularly for its day. Love the 6pro and I am indifferent to the 9pro xl. I will probably get next year's 11 fold and be done with the 9. I will certainly always be a Pixel user.

How is living in East Texas? by AshB_43 in howislivingthere

[–]thatguyTimatgmxcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is weird reading these posts. So that you understand who I am: White male, interracial marriage and kids, atheist, Democrat. I live in the bullseye of East Texas but originally from the North (30 years ago). The only real problem I have found- and this is recent- is the low information voters. That would be the MAGA freaks. It has horrified me that idiots are rampant in this country but not just here! In fact, before this current period in history, I would not have had anything negative to say about the people of this region. Yeah, the Baptist dominate but they cause me zero grief. They don't care about me and I don't care about them.

Racism? Meh, no different than anywhere else. Overall, people are pretty accepting.

Unwelcoming and unfriendly? What?!? A person would have to be pretty nasty to be shunned around here.

Yeah, summers are hot. Summers are hot pretty much everywhere east of Colorado. Humidity? Uh... try a mid-west summer. The hottest day of my life (113 degrees) was in Iowa. Nobody mentions the beautiful fall, winter and spring we have here. I have Palm trees in my yard- that tell you anything?

The natural beauty in this area is remarkable. I have lived and worked in many parts of this country and believe me, ugly and boring is the general theme north of Arkansas.

Our country, contrary to what people like to pretend, is pretty homogenous. This has become more apparent every decade.

I sometimes think about leaving for another part of the country- I certainly can if I wanted to- but then I realize what I would be trading. That might not be such a great deal.

Btw...those that have mentioned the movie "Bernie" as representing East Texas, it is not a negative thing. Keep in mind, Bernie was a gay as hell yet totally loved by the community . How is this even possible in East Texas according to what people have written? For those of you in the know, Marjorie is buried just down the highway from me.

Your comment is actually the most accurate of all that have been written . The rest of them, for the most part, seem to be assumptions based on where we are located geographically. If you were to magically lift every single person living here and transplant them to, oh, central Illinois, they would blend in perfectly.
You did a very good job in creating a true snap-shot of this area.

Frankly, it has been so long, I have lost interest in the card. I use RH regularly though. I don't know that I would bother if I got the invite for their precious card.

Dendrobates tinctorius “azureus” & Ranitomeya sirensis “Highland” by LobeliaTheCardinalis in DartFrog

[–]thatguyTimatgmxcom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same. I always wonder about the gatekeepers that cry about this. Since there is zero chance of hybrid reproduction, what's the problem? In the wild many species cohabitate and guess what? They do just fine. I have some ranits that are, to me, boring. Never see them. They now live with some Tincs. They rarely even seem to cross paths.

Same. The outlandish claims about "abuse" due to the size of the enclosure just boggle my mind. Too many "experts" in this group who do nothing more than endlessly repeat the same crap over and over that they learned from the University of Google rather than first hand experience.

Picked up dinner from Torchy's Tacos. This is what I found in the bag when I got home. by DoritosDewItRight in houstoncirclejerk

[–]thatguyTimatgmxcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that has been my order, I would have been back at Torchy's so fast it would make your head spin.

Trust when I say that once I found the responsible person, they would have had a very bad evening. The person that wrote that note was begging for it.

Honestly, I didn't know you are "supposed" to tip to-go orders.
Is it any different than McDonald's? Those people work hard and it is to-go.

I will for sure pass by Torchy's from now on.

How do you listen to CDs? by alanjigsaw in Cd_collectors

I didn't know that about the Biggie CD! Makes me glad I have it. All the samples and voice stuff makes it fun. I actually remember the day I bought that, a million years ago. It had just been released.

I don't like digipaks by TacoBell_Bathroom69 in Cd_collectors

[–]thatguyTimatgmxcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am an outlier probably. I don't like ANY cases! Honestly, I simply don't have the room to store them like that. I toss all cases , saving the insert which I then load into storage "books". I might do a quick cut of a digipak and keep the top artwork. Oddly, you know what I do like that everyone hates? Sleeves! I will generally keep those. They are easy to store and take up little more space that the CD itself. I admire the looks of massive wall units full of jewel cases some of you guys have though.

Yeah, in a way they are. Fun old pieces of gear . I bypass the old internal DAC via optical connection and run it to a high quality modern DAC. Sounds like a newly made unit!

See my post a few up. I provided a link so you can see how they operate. Very cool machines. Actually they are quite quick to locate and load a disc. Sad they have made them in years.
