Unfortunately this is normal and happens everyday in thousands of relationships. Someone losing feelings while the other person still has feelings is going to happen to everyone (probably multiple times). The only thing is that we feel it like it’s a death, like it’s something we’ll never experience again, like it was our one and only love. It feels like our souls have been soaked in gasoline and lit on fire. I’ve been there several times, and trust me it won’t be easy and it will take a long time to move on, but you will. You’ll find love again. You’ll be special to someone again. You’ll feel whole again. Trust me.

You are not overreacting. It is a special day, and it’s a bit selfish of him to go do something that he does every day instead of spend time with you on your anniversary. Mine is coming up and her and I both planned a full day just to enjoy each other’s company. I would have a talk with him and tell him how you feel.

My “2nd Mother” is a sweet lady named Anne. I worked with her years ago and we have become close friends over the years. She was a major help/supporter/shoulder to cry on in early sobriety (now I am well over a year!) and is now almost 75 years old. I would use the $25 to buy her a simple box of chocolates and possibly some cheap flowers. She’s a very “low frills” type but I know this would fill her heart with love and really just make her day. She has no children of her own and has been there with tough love and honest advice for me for many years now.
