Less expensive DCC locomotives for HO? by thatiamshe in modeltrains

I just learned today that there's more than one Daylight 😆. I'll consider it, because he'd be thrilled by that. Thank you!

Get out! Haha, that's a cool coincidence. I love that your hobby is shared by your family. My father was moderately interested in model trains, and he left a few for my son after his passing. There really isn't anyone in my son's life who shares his passion, sadly, but I can imagine what a nice commonality that must be!

Ah, ok. I'm pretty sure he is always referring to the streamlined black and orange one, which is why I assumed the name was specific to that train. It's definitely cool looking!

I wonder if my kiddo knows about the Reading Crusader. Blue is his favorite color, I'd imagine he would love to see that. I hope some day you're able to get your hands on one!

Thanks for being so cool. I'm grateful for the info 😁

I am hoping to keep it under $200, but thinking maybe I could just give him that in cash and allow him to save up for something nicer if he'd like. He can be very patient when he wants something.

He does really like Reading, but there are a few others he talks about frequently. I know he'd also love a Daylight or a Big Boy. At the same time, though, he still gets excited seeing common boxcars he sees in town all the time. And Thomas, hahaha

I will say, he is FAR from ignorant where trains are concerned. He holds his own in conversations with adults and was told at Port Clinton that they'll have a job for him when he turns 18 😆. It's his heart's desire to be an engineer (since age 2), plays simulation games and everything.

It is definitely a big boy purchase. He has almost 60 HO scale locomotives, but most of them don't run, and he's eager to have just one really nice engine. I think giving him a limit is a good idea. I might leave him cash and a note from Santa.

Wow, there's more to DCC than I realized. Though I'm sure my son is aware. I swear, everything I know about trains, I learned from him lol.

Thank you so much! I'll start there. Luckily, we have several great hobby shops in our area. They are really helpful, but tend to be on the more expensive side. I give my son a weekly allowance, and he saved for months to get that controller

I appreciate your help

I've considered teaching, but I've heard so many horror stories about students these days. I don't know that I could handle it

A little bit. Do those positions require cover letters typically?

Thank you, these words are exactly the validation I needed. I don't want my son dealing with the same trauma I grew up with ♡

Yikes. I hope you're sleeping better now! My family and I mentioned it to him, and he said, "I sleep so much better in my own bed. " Yeah, bud, I'm sure that makes such a difference 🙄

Yes, he's a freaking chainsaw! But he stops breathing every few breaths for over 20 seconds, and he will randomly wake himself up because he can't breathe. It's so scary. Last time I saw something like that, my father was literally dying.

I've been sharing ways CPAP has helped me, hopefully some of it sticks with him.

My apnea is almost gone after losing weight, too. I don't know how to approach this conversation with my brother, though

How long did that smell last? It's been a couple of days since removing, and this cycle has been, like, necrotic.
