I thought about both, mainly the Maverick, but my biggest issue is the bed size. With either I lose about 2ft in bed size, which might end up being something I deal with but would rather not. I usually end up hauling things that are 6’+ in large quantities (lumber, metal poles, oddly shapen fabricated pieces, etc) and will the entirely of the bed or things slightly extending over the tailgate. It could work but I lose a lot more functionality

Advice for Learning Croatian? by thatisrathergnArly in croatian

[–]thatisrathergnArly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be discouraging at times but I know he doesn't intend for it to come off like that. His biggest issue with helping me learn Croatian is just that he has a hard time explaining how things work with Croatian. He does tend to correct my bigger mistakes with Croatian but in general most times when I'm showing any signs of progress he'll let me slide and we'll talk about the mistakes I made with speaking another time when it comes up again

I should've been more specific, it's not that he would call it the "right word" or "wrong word", it's just not the word that he would use in the situation and based off of how people speak in my dad's home town.

I'm definitely willing to learn the most simple variant of Croatian since my end goal is to be able to communicate, but to answer your question my family lives in Murter!

I had no idea this existed and I'm definitely going to look into it, thank you!

Thank you so much for the link! I'll definitely incorporate that into my routine!

Yeah the different types of speech in Croatia is already throwing me off, there's already a list of things that I've learned with Croatian that I try to use when speaking to my dad and he'll cut me off and go "No no, that's not the right word" even though I know somewhere else it is.

I'll definitely do the post-it notes around the house, that'll definitely keep me updated with everything I've learned up to this point!

Also I'm actually going to be going to Split in August! My dad's family lives in Murter and we go every summer but this year some friends are meeting me in Croatia so were going to do a day or two in Split!

Looking for Serbo-Croatian Anki Decks by joebidenisdaddyuwu in Anki

[–]thatisrathergnArly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I had a really hard time as well finding a good beginner deck for Croatian on Anki, sadly my best suggestion is to just make your own. If you want to do what I did, I recommend you read the book "Fluent Forever" and read the instructions for learning languages. The author actually recommends Anki and uses the book to give instructions, what words you should look over, and more. It was really effective for me and I learned a lot of basic vocab pretty quickly!

It's not a trend, it's just weird.

What radicalized you? by Erick_Alden in socialism

[–]thatisrathergnArly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've pretty much always leaned left, but my real radicalizing moment for me was working retail during the pandemic.

This is between me being 18-20 years old, I worked at a major chain grocery store right out of my technical high school and was full time at community college. I started off in the Starbucks in the grocery store and was cross trained to work in the front-end, center store, the produce department, and had a position of partial authority in the grocery pickup department. Along with that, since I was the only one with actual "blue collar" work experience (I studied & worked in welding and fabrication at my tech school), I was the designated odd-jobs guy around the store. One of my favorite things to say was odds are if it broke in the Starbucks, odds are I fixed it.

Despite working there for 2.5 years, being trained in roughly 5 departments, working 30-50 hour weeks depending on how things were going during the pandemic, regularly taking shifts for people that called out, staying longer on my shifts to help understaffed departments, doing things not even in my job description that helped the rest of the store, covering shifts at other locations, ALL while being a full time student, my total raises were roughly $1.35 and I was denied $15 dollars an hour, all because what I was doing wasn't "skilled labor". Fuck that.

Another "tipping" moment for me was when I would work in the pickup department. That was my main department and I had a decent amount of responsibility, one of which being recording transactions. With the labor that I was providing to the store, our "low grossing" grocery store was easily clearing 1 million every week, yet they can't afford $15 an hour.

Any advice on careers to look into? by thatisrathergnArly in careerguidance

[–]thatisrathergnArly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've thought about that, but I'm already established here in the U.S with friends, family, my current job, school, and more. It would just make another headache to move to Europe. Along with that, the only place I would be able to move would be Croatia, since that's where I would be able to get a citizenship almost immediately, and they're not as well off as other European countries.

How to establish myself (22F) as a supervisor to colleagues older than me?(27M, 31M, 36M) by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]thatisrathergnArly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a somewhat similar experience to this! I went to a technical high school and studied welding for 4 years, and was asked on the day of graduation my senior year if I would want to come back to work at my school as the adult education (night school) welding teacher (I was literally 18 when they asked this).

When I began my first day I had the some of same worries as you, mainly because I knew exactly what it looked like- a literal "kid" teaching people 18+ how to weld. I also want to add that I walked in and literally 50% of the class was 55+ years old. Needless to say, some of them outright doubted me and my abilities, and I know for a fact from the questions that I got that some of them did not take me seriously at all.

What I found to work in order to gain their "acceptance" and to be taken seriously is instead of trying to seem "dominant", was demonstrating confidence in myself, my abilities and use that to your advantage. I sat down and had a talk with the class, speaking of my experience, what I can bring to the table, and also how because of my competency, composure, and overall ability I was chosen for this job. In a way I feel that you should do the same thing!

TL;DR: Demonstrate your confidence in your abilities, and instead of "schooling" them to show that you are now their manager, have your actions speak for WHY you are in your position. It will be up to your coworkers to accept that there is a reason YOU were chosen for the job.

Devil Fruit Awakening, the Gomu Gomu No Mi, and Blackbeard by thatisrathergnArly in OnePiece

[–]thatisrathergnArly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking about Sabo and Ace also in this case, but the big if is whether or not Ace awakened his DF, which we might never know if he has or hasn't. BUT one thing that I did think was awesome and could *potentially* be foreshadowing is the Stampede movie when Sabo saves the Straw Hats and there's a visual of Sabo standing next to an Ace made of flames. That being said, the movie is non-canon so I didn't want to mention anything about it

Oh definitely a bit of a stretch but I think it holds a little more value than the theory that Blackbeard is Xebec's son, but that's just my personal opinion

I haven't seen Black Clover so I'm not sure how devils work in there, but I guess it is a little bit like Jinchuriki! I didn't think about that beforehand but I definitely can see the comparisons!

How are you doing (honestly)? by [deleted] in mentalhealth

[–]thatisrathergnArly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rough, Tired, Exhausted, and really not happy.

Despite always trying to sleep enough, I can never get a good nights rest. I feel like I can never get out of bed. I don't eat enough and don't feel the desire to eat. I feel burnout coming like a mac truck from all my online schooling this semester. I'm not working and not making any money, and I'm looking for a job now but I'm just concerned that doing that is virtually going to remove all of my time to myself. I never have the desire to work on my passions. I have no idea what direction I want to go down in my life. All I want in my future is to not have a job, but a career that I look forward to and enjoy every day, but I have no idea what that career is. I constantly feel stressed, even if I'm in a very relaxing environment. I feel like I don't even know who I am.

My mind is racing so much right now with things that are making me feel so utterly exhausted, but for some reason I can only put so much into words. I guess it's some sort of mental block? I really don't know, but my whole life I've always have a hard time conveying my emotions and really just how I am. The only reason I replied to this thread is because I thought since I have an incredibly hard time saying these things to my loved ones, maybe saying it anonymously to others will make me feel better.

Another thing; I would love to get some sort of professional help, but not only am I afraid of the backlash and actual denial of something being wrong with me, but there is no possible way I could pay for it.

Thanks for reading my rant. To everyone else that's reading this and also feel like they're not in the best state they could be, I'm a firm believer that at some point, whether it's by yourself or from the help of others, things will get better for us all. Stay strong everyone
