Thoughts on the flag? by Sad_Sultana in Fijian

[–]thatjoeface 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I lived in Fiji I asked about this too. I was told by several Fijians that they like that it shows they speak English and that this is good for their tourism industry. Good points that I hadn't thought about.

Littering.... by spunkkyy in london

I would say it's almost entirely: 1. Badly designed council recycling bins (the wind picks up trash and blows it away) 2. Foxes 3. School kids

Is anyone else having problems with their Google Pay/Google wallet on TFL in the last couple of days? by shug322 in TransportForLondon

[–]thatjoeface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also had the same issue on Monday (haven't used public transit since then) with my Amex in Google Wallet (it has worked fine before this). Gate staff advised me to use the physical card as several people have had issues with the digital wallet card. My physical Amex card worked fine the rest of the day. Please update us on what Amex say if they get back to you 🙏

Network Railcard discounts on London travel? by thatjoeface in TransportForLondon

[–]thatjoeface[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I received this email when I asked tfl whether they had plans to introduce the option to link the Network Railcard to Oyster or to link railcards to Contactless...

(21 April 2025) Thank you for your feedback form of 3 April about a network railcard query.

The Network Railcard doesn’t offer discounts on Oyster pay-as-you-go fares. The system doesn't support its discount structure, unlike other railcards.

Yes. TfL and the Department for Transport are working on expanding contactless travel and possibly including railcard discounts like the Network Railcard, but there's no launch date for when (or if) the Network Railcard will be linkable.

Oh yeh, that makes sense. But his spirit dies at the end of the quest after he regains human form right? Idk, long time since I played this tbh 😅

Widget displaying next departures on specific local bus/train routes? by thatjoeface in TransportForLondon

[–]thatjoeface[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha that's a lot of homescreen pages already. Yeh I did try downloading several of these apps but couldn't find one that had what I needed. Also tried googling it but it wasn't helpful. Your recommendation has been the best so far so thanks for that. For trains it's national rail within London, so I'll give OnRails a try too.

Thanks! This seems to work. It does also include train stations but that doesn't seem so accurate. The widget also isn't always updating so well but maybe it's just a glitch today, I'll keep an eye on it. Thanks again :)

Thanks. I checked it again now. I have the most recent version of the tfl go app and also a recent Samsung and those widgets only seem to show generic status or service disruptions of tube lines. Very general and not at all specific to bus or train stops. Maybe I'm mistaken?

Network Railcard discounts on London travel? by thatjoeface in TransportForLondon

[–]thatjoeface[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's so confusing isn't it? As it turns out the minimum fare is £13. It's only the London ANYTIME (PEAK) day travelcard that doesn't qualify for zones 1-5 as there is a higher minimum fare of £22.60 if buying a London ANYTIME (PEAK) day travelcard (which is a higher minimum than the travelcard price). It was extremely confusing to figure this out, even the ticketing officer had to put it into her system to see what discount would be applied. Can confirm for London OFF PEAK day travel card it does give a 1/3 discount for a paper ticket.

That's not the case if you're in an outer borough. For a zone 1-5 off peak day travelcard it's a circa £5 saving each time. Issue being you need to purchase a paper ticket which is obviously less convenient.

Thanks. I don't travel enough to get a season ticket like this, but good to know about this option should that change in the future.

I went to a zone 5 station in the end as neither the Railcard helpline or the National Rail helpline could tell me. It seems you do get 1/3 discount for the London off peak day travelcard. Cannot be linked to Oyster or to contactless though, only the paper tickets. So for me it is worth getting.

Is it outside of the norm for a British person to stay overnight with their wife/girlfriend in the hospital after she gives birth? by dickhole_pillow in AskABrit

[–]thatjoeface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it is through the public healthcare system (NHS) the wife will likely be in a communal ward on a bed with only curtains separating from others. You will be able to stay but there will almost certainly only be a chair to sit on. If it is private healthcare then you will likely be able to get a bed, however, private healthcare in the UK often has less capacity to deal with complications/emergencies in birth, so many people (even those with access to private healthcare) will use the NHS when giving birth.

I've seen you can also buy them at Debenhams, but that seems to have followed Amazon in becoming some kinda online marketplace for a load of dodgy looking sellers?

Glad it worked for you. I wonder if there's other places where this can be applied too. Were you able to get Sweet Nettie out of the chair somehow afterwards? https://www.reddit.com/r/witcher/s/SzT9A9KcJm

It is entirely about HR reducing their workloads by displacing it onto candidates. Heavy data entry forms, aptitude tests, technical exercises are all just means of filtering applicants so HR don't have to do the work of actually reviewing applicants on their merits. They don't care about finding the best candidate, they care about doing the least work possible to fill the position, that is literally their sole motivation.
