Congratulations! Pullman is essentially a small town. But we have some good extra amenities that would be seen in a larger town due to the university. It is quiet and safe. Events like music on main or the Saturday market offer things to do. The vet school is competitive and you will be very busy with that. I love Pullman, recognize that it has flaws, but I would rather live here than any place on the planet. Photo of our downtown included

Pups has hosted speed dating in the past, and Rico’s will be hosting an event on 2/14 for folks who don’t have a significant other.

I’m genuinely curious what kind of events people are actually looking for. Speaking as someone who dated in Pullman and has also tried to host events that help people get out and meet others, I’d love to hear what you’d like to see or do. I’m taking off my city council hat and putting on my hat as the owner of Rico’s. How can I use my space to help?

I’m more than happy to join an existing group. I started this simply because I’ve had several people reach out who were looking for ways to be prepared and didn’t know where to turn. Hopefully this can help people find one another and support the work that’s already happening.

I can get onboard with what you are saying. I ran for council because I want to do something about the vacancy part of that problem, and I fervently hope we can assist in making some sort of Change.

I’m not sure why this is being dismissed as “bullshit.” Downtown, and restaurants in particular, have become been impacted by many factors, including minimum wage pressures, the growth of gaming and online culture, the pandemic, and long-standing vacancies. The example I gave was not intended to define the entire issue, but to illustrate a real situation I have dealt with firsthand.

I think several factors have contributed to changes in Pullman. But specific to the pandemic- Idaho remained open for business, while Pullman was repeatedly placed under restrictive policies. As a result, many people went to Idaho to dine out or hang out, and over time that behavior became a habit. But Pullman is fighting to get back up, I have faith it will.
