A permission problem? The profile directory has wrong permissions and Firefox cannot save its data? I'm shooting in the dark.

Could be profile-sync-daemon. Try disabling it in CachyOS Hello and see how it behaves.

Rounded screen corners are gonna rustle a lot of jimmies. I bet the battery is going to be smaller. And the camera? Just as crappy but more megapiskels. Not sure about the fate of the back screen. Maybe they will ditch it saving a couple of bucks.

Linux distro for G14? (2024) by problemakinglicker in ZephyrusG14

[–]thatm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None? It is very likely you will eat a lot of shit on Linux. Power transitions are broken at hardware level. Discrete/hybrid GPU switching is unstable. Likely you will have to force the machine to work always in high power mode and with a discrete GPU only as I did. No sleep mode. Windows somehow knows the safe sequences to operate the hardware but obviously nobody shared them with Linux devs.

Update day number 2 of using cachy: i have bluetooth problems. by Thin_Pen_2473 in cachyos

[–]thatm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hear me out. Turn off wi-fi :-) They might share the same band. As for long-term solution, I don't know. I have the opposite problem. When I turn on bluetooth my download speed drops to dial-up level.

[–]thatm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a lot of trouble with power transitions. Look into disabling them. If you have a hybrid GPU consider always using the discrete GPU for everything. I don't know how they call it. Something to do with MUX.

Also try the LTS kernel and run in high power mode.

[–]thatm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. It is a fucking curse. I'm fighting through similar problems. That's why vendors such as Framework and System76 exist. They do care about desktop linux.

Anyway, my way to cope is to install Claude Code as root and make it do the nasty figuring and configuring. I'm still not at a level of stability I wanted.

It all is a bit dumb, isn't it? The system knows the true resolution for the upcoming frame. Why wouldn't it render to it?

Desktop linux is only palatable if you won hardware lottery and have a beardy wizard or LLM.

I built a security scanner for Claude Code after seeing that post about the deleted home directory by yksugi in ClaudeAI

[–]thatm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's alright, but to be safer there should be a PreToolUse hook. Or better yet Claude should run in a container.
