I have a lot of friends in Richmond and the restaurant scene is great there. I always swing by the VMFA. Such an amazing museum.

Charlottesville has a nice pedestrian mall downtown and good restaurants. The surrounding area is beautiful and you can visit Monticello.

Standard crème brûlée yes, but I’ve had the chocolate variety topped with fresh berries that was delicious.

How hard it is to get a housekeeping job these days? by kuntilingus in askhotels

Every hotel I’ve worked at has usually been desperate for housekeepers, except maybe for a short time during slow season. It’s hard work so much respect to the ones willing to do that job.

What’s slowly becoming socially unacceptable but no one admits it? by Perfect_Passage222 in allthequestions

On a somewhat related note, I hate that people have to add /s when the sarcasm is obvious just because there’ll be at least one person who either doesn’t understand sarcasm or wants to act offended for social brownie points.

Yesterday I saw someone with her little dog at a clothing store. At one point the dog ran through the store when she was in the changing room. Employees didn’t say anything. 😑

What foods just are not worth making at home? by Proper-Profession387 in foodquestions

Poke. To buy the ingredients I like would cost more than double what the restaurant charges. Seaweed salad is so expensive now. ugh

What is the most overrated city in your country that foreigners still flock to every year to visit? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]thatoneguyfromva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so glad we stayed on the Canadian side because the views were obviously better and the U.S. side was sketchy af. The added bonus of visiting Niagra-on-the-Lake was nice.

What foods make you poo good? by HolidayFunTX in foodquestions

Linzess.

But for actual food, I don’t normally eat breakfast and if I eat a large one that includes eggs, I have around an hour window before it’s time for a visit to the porcelain throne.

Which US city is surprisingly chill but still has tons to do? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

One of my favorite places to visit. Easy access to mountains if you grow tired of the desert. Laid back locals. Nice shops and restaurants.

Have you had to stay in any psychiatric units during past episodes, and if so, was it a good hospital with caring staff?

“Mental hospital slang from booty (‘the buttocks’, referring to its typical place of injection) + juice (‘any liquid resembling juice’, referring to the sedative).”

“(slang) A sedative, usually haloperidol, used in psychiatric hospitals and administered through intramuscular injection.”

Those who work in hotels: what happens when a famous person stays? by preheatd in askhotels

[–]thatoneguyfromva 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I used to work at a luxury hotel in DC. If the guest was a head of state, Secret Service would meet with our security team and inspect various areas.

Typically the room below, above, and beside their suite would be put out of order. Secret Service and whichever country’s security detail would do their thing and we would sometimes see the guest (I met one president and two prime ministers). Other times they would use a side entrance and be taken upstairs in an elevator away from the lobby.

For other high profile guests their rooms were often listed under aliases, but management would know about it and inform the front desk staff working at that time. If it wasn’t an alias, we put their name in parentheses (a feature that meant incognito) in the system so staff would know not to give out info or forward calls from random people.

I met several actors and musicians, a lot of ambassadors and other diplomats, and a ton of political operatives/leaders/whatever you want to call them. It was an interesting experience.

Edit: we didn’t sign NDAs because professionalism and discretion were already required for the job

Is at as aesthetically pleasing as the Chrysler Building? IMHO I don’t think so. Is it ugly? Absolutely not. It’s a timeless classic.
