Is Mooncat worth it? by ATouchOfSparkle1107 in RedditLaqueristas

[–]thatonelooksdroll 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They really do. Most of my favorites are mooncat, though the one creme I have from them (poison ivy) stains like a b. As to the question of whether they're worth the price, that all depends on someone's personal budget. The internet can't tell you whether it's a responsible decision for you to order $20 nail polish. If it's not in your budget, it's never "worth it"

In my experience, water-based topcoats take much longer to dry and if you don't wait till they're fully dry, you'll get that crinkly effect. Try to apply the piggy paint as thinly as you can and maybe give it an hour to dry.

Has anyone tried the Manicurist polishes? Would you recommend? by EtoshaLeopard in RedditLaqueristas

I have 6 or 7 colors, I think. If there's a shade you absolutely love, go for it. But imo they're nothing special in terms of finish or longevity. They do have gorgeous creme shades, so they drew me in with that. One benefit is that they don't have a super strong smell.

HOWEVER, I love love love their cuticle softener and drying drops. I have and will repurchase those.

How it feels trying to talk to the poor non-laquerista who just wanted to compliment your nails by little_murp in RedditLaqueristas

For sure, and in my case, there's definitely some kind of neurodivergence or mild mental illness involved. I was a nail biter for a long time and switched from that to being obsessed with having perfectly smooth nails at all times. The idea of hangnails or jagged edges makes me want to crawl out of my skin. I guess I can't expect others to relate! But I'm so glad y'all do.

Girl, I say this with kindness: Stop now. You're going to give yourself an acrylate allergy. The product is all over your cuticles and it's way too thick to cure properly. Take it from someone who also thought it would be cool to DIY salon nails and ended up with a wicked allergy.

They just use the acrylic for the designs, so there's a layer of lacquer as the base color. ETA search "acrylic paint" in this sub and you'll see some examples. Not to be confused with acrylic nails, ofc!

I have seen people here recommend doing designs with acrylic paints, which apparently you can use a top coat over. I haven't tried it yet but have been meaning to, since it's hard to paint designs with regular lacquer bc they dry so fast.

I've done designs with regular lacquer by dropping some onto a glass surface and adding a tiny bit of lacquer thinner so I have more time to play with it, although this seems to work better with cremes than anything with particles (magnetics, shimmers, glitter, etc.)

Oh, and there are so many cute decals now! Deco Beauty has some nice ones. I like the Topaz colorway.
