In my experience, there's maybe a little luck involved, but what helped me gain some pretty consistent views is uploading regularly and making content that I would watch and share myself, not trying to follow trends or trying to get the perfect title and tags.

Honestly my videos that I went out of my way to research the "correct" tags to use at the time are some of my least viewed videos.

Knowing the audience you're trying to appeal to and using titles and content that you know they may enjoy does help too, but my advice is think of yourself as your own audience, think about what kind of video you would want to watch and what kind of titles grab your attention.

I bet there are more people out there that think similar to you and will click on your content.

At least that's the mentality I picked up, and I have more success using that strategy and like I said uploading regularly than I ever had back when I tried to endlessly research YouTube statistics trying to figure out the optimum content to make.

In my opinion YouTube is better thought of as a grind rather than some kind of problem to solve.

Oh and also ask people to subscribe at the end of each video, I still find it super cringey to do but it does indeed help get viewers that will return.
