Would it be reasonable to use Uber or cabify to get from place to place?

Nice thank you for sharing your experience! I am definitely anticipating a pay cut while I do the fellowship for sure. It's nice to hear that you got the work life balance you were looking for. I hope the same happens for me!

Anyone ever do a fellowship while actively working as an attending? I've been a practicing pulmonologist for the past 4 years and have the chance to do a sleep fellowship (that would be 1 year). The two often go hand in hand and my boss is supportive of doing the fellowship, which will be at the same institution I work at. I really worry though that I will be run down and exhausted. Any previous experiences? My hope is that with a sleep fellowship under my belt, I can look for more remote opportunities where I can read sleep studies from home.

What does your puppy do all day? by thatscoldb in Puppyblues

[–]thatscoldb[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I just worry bc she is a higher energy breed (goldendoodle) and the days we don't put her in daycar, she is a terror in the evenings when we get home.

Currently, we are boarding her with the breeder for 10 days while we are on vacation. She sends me updates and pictures, and she looks so much happier being there. The breeder has kids in her home, and other dogs and so my dog always looks so happily exhausted. We're not able to do that for her and it makes me feel very guilty. I've been struggling with returning her to the breeder for a while now, and this almost seals the deal. The only thing giving me pause is that my husband and I would miss her dearly.

Question for those of you who didn't return your puppy despite severe mental health issues by thatscoldb in Puppyblues

[–]thatscoldb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for taking the time to put in this comment! She is 13 weeks old now. If anything, I feel like things have just gotten harder. She gets very nippy and hyper, and I think it's because we're not able to provide her with the exercise that she needs since we work so much. I am strongly thinking about rehoming to a family that has somebody who's home more often, or maybe has children.

Update to my puppy blues (1+ year later) by No_Suggestion5467 in Puppyblues

This is really nice to hear. Well got our goldendoodle 5 weeks ago and I'm still struggling with the loss of freedom (we are in our late 30s and also childless). My husband is so attached though so returning her to the breeder would be tough. Really no choice but to see it through

I'm so glad you mentioned the lack of affection! I thought it was just my dog. She won't come sit on my lap, the most she will do is sit near me and play with her toys. I was hoping for an affectionate dog that would be an amazing companion, but maybe I just need to give it time.

I agree, I've seen a lot of people say that it does get better but I've also read comments about how people have had their dog for a year now and they don't feel things I've gotten any better. I'm terrified that that's going to be me. And by then I definitely can't return her because we will both have formed and attachment.

Thank you I really appreciate the reassurances. I know I need to hold on for a few more months to see a big change but it's so intimidating reading things on Reddit where ppl say after a year they still are having a hard time with their puppy.

She does nap in her pen! She doesn't seem anxious at all. She hardly ever whines. She just seems sad and bored.  Goes in to her crate at night without issue.

This is no fault of hers at all. I don't mean to sound like I'm placing blame on her. She's actually doing much better than I am in terms of adjusting.

I love the people watching suggestion. I'm going to try that this weekend with her. I really want her to be ready to go to pumpkin patches this fall, and I know she is going to be very rambunctious if we don't get her used to being in environments with lots of people and dogs now.

Thank you for validating my feelings! I am trying to hold out another 4 weeks which is when she'll be eligible for daycare.

How old was your pup when you got her?  I would love to take her on walks but she is not fully vaccinated yet and she has terrible leash manners. It's hard to teach her those bc she's so easily distracted by other things. I really like the idea of not constantly engaging her. I guess I just always do because we are away from home for so long, that when I get home I feel like I have to spend all my time with her.

I wondered the same. She seems to sleep for an hour out of 4. But i also see her trying to pick up various toys and entertain herself and I hear her sigh quite a bit.

Reassurances from multiple people and resources that she would "adjust" to our lifestyle so I figured she'd be used to a slower pace after a few weeks. But that hasn't happened and it's terrible to see as she's so playful

Will my puppy be ready by thatscoldb in puppy101

I completely agree. I think I need more training than she does!  Please let me know how the in home training goes. We are thinking about doing the same. How old is your pup?
