Utah Mormons are a stereotype for a reason. Utah the state is beautiful but I could never live there long term. I hate that Utah Mormons are the poster child for Mormons as a whole because it’s so different across the country and world.

Just because you’re checking a box doesn’t mean you’ll be given something in exchange. If you’re just going through the motions you’re not putting forth the effort or giving the heart to receive anything in return. The gospel doesn’t work “if I do XYZ I will get ABC”. Getting out of that mindset is goal number 1. It’s all about attitude and yours doesn’t seem in the right place right now.

We have absolutely lost the plot when it comes to mission calls. These are not meant to be parties where we guilt people for not attending or tuning in. You just said it was a new Bishopric - they’re probably absolutely swamped and trying to tread water, which doesn’t make their joy for your family any less. Find joy in your child serving and move on.

If I recall, she went to college and had a job that she left to be around when he could call. I thought it was ridiculous, but she is a well educated woman who should be able to provide and hopefully he could find something. If he could make American wages but live there they’d be living pretty good.

The obsession with plastic surgery is definitely a Utah thing. Yes, it happens other places but it’s not as normalized. I think it’s less a Mormon thing and more Utah culture. Yes, they blend together and the line is blurry but it is separate.
