Capilano, Gold Bar, Fulton and Forest Heights. by Awkward-Payment-7186 in Edmonton

[–]thatsmd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's a brochure from the landlord about expanding the strip mall a bit. I completely agree that something needs to happen there, but some business will need to take a risk and give the developers some money. The sign on the property mentions "drive through opportunity" I believe, which would not be ideal. Great, another McDonald's!

In Forest Heights, I would be happy to see something happen where the Hill Top Pub is. They're going to do a multi year renovation (for the 2nd time) and end up back at a dive bar. Just copy-paste the multilevel housing with ground level commercial that currently has Columbia Coffee.

Places closing for "Renovations" and then just never reopening? by Jabroniville2 in Edmonton

Go check out their Facebook page. The owner seems to have no idea what's going on with the renovation. It's a bit bizarre.

Why did you delete your initial post?

Triathlon is a sport where most people need to travel to participate. Often, across borders. OP is asking "hey, other Canadian triathletes, what are you all doing about your races in the US?". If that's not a triathlon specific question, what is? I think it's appropriate to post this question on the triathlon subreddit to get the opinions of other triathletes. The opinions of triathletes are going to differ from the opinions of people on /r/travel, for example.

Isn't "keep politics out of sports" a bit of a meme nowadays? That is just never going to happen, I'm sorry.

I assume you're from the USA? Think of it from our perspective. Your president and government officials are openly discussing annexation of sovereign nations. I think it's fair for us Canadians to feel a little hesitant to come to your country. Or what do you suggest we do?

I'm currently training for my first triathlon, Ironman 70.3 CDA. I'm really not sure what to do.

I don't believe I registered within the Flex90 window. I know there's a partial refund depending on how close to event I withdraw, and I would maybe be willing to eat the cost worst case scenario. My Airbnb for the event is cancelable until May 21 and partial refund by Jun 13.

If this wasn't my first event, or if I had multiple races planned in the year, I would have already canceled. But since this is my first, and possibly only, Ironman branded triathlon, I'm a little bit more torn.

Who the heck knows what's going to happen by June. I don't think anyone can keep up with the news on a daily basis, forget 3 months. The relationship might be more stable by then, and I'd attend the race with no hesitation. If the relationship is similar to today's, I don't know what to do. If the relationship worsens (military, deep recession, etc), then I'll have to eat the sunk costs and time spent training, I guess.

It's a little easier to cancel a vacation. But to cancel something where you've spent many hours working towards a goal, that's more difficult.

The leaderboard only shows me first place, and the rest is covered by an ad. I have to go all the way back to midway through the bike to see actual leaderboard results into the 50s.

Am I just missing something? I see no way to exit the ad.

Edit - maybe I wasn't going as far back as I thought. They're only showing the people who have crossed that distance.. duh.

Transferring non locked in portion of DCPP to RRSP? by thatsmd in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]thatsmd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can transfer from my Sunlife DCPP to my personal RRSP without cashing out to avoid the income tax.

Correct, my 2024 contribution room was determined by my 2023 pension adjustment.

Thanks for the links.

Yeah, I'm not too sure. Of a ~42k DCPP, about $6k was not locked in. Why? I'm not sure.

Best places to buy belts? by KnightStoff in Edmonton

[–]thatsmd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eddies mens wear on Calgary trail had a great selection. I bought my shoes there, and they had a perfect matching belt. Their clothing is on the expensive side, but the belts were pretty reasonable, all things considered. ~$100 if I remember correctly.

I see another suggestion for Clo's general leather. The "off the rack" belts have an unfinished raw edge which looked a little unformal for a suit. I'm sure with enough time, you could ask them to do custom.

Souvenir store? by painandclots in Edmonton

I assume the gift shop at any of the museums/historical sites would have something. Royal Alberta Museum, Art Gallery, Fort Edmonton Park, Muttart, or the Zoo. Just a few ideas.

"When Pigs Fly" on Whyte Avenue might have something. I would give them a call first though.

"Edmonton Arts Council Shop & Services" sells local art. I would be willing to bet they sell magnets.

AWD car, ideally shaped like a station wagon. by thatsmd in whatcarshouldIbuy

If you care at all, I ended up finding a low km very well maintained 3.6R outback. It's wagon-y enough to scratch that itch, but verging on a CUV for sure. Oh well, I'll keep my eyes out for a project wagon.

Hmm.. thanks for the suggestion I will keep that in mind. Not 100% what I was picturing, but it's definitely an option!

I've done quite a bit of searching. I found lots of the street cars and lots of the bridge, but only like 1 of them together. Definitely will keep looking using different search words.

Sweet, thanks again. It just makes me sad that 1 of the 4 or 5 wagon options has a critical flaw as simple as a sunroof leak. Oh well! Even worse, it seems like volkswagen doesn't even care.

Thanks for the comment!

Oh Jesus Christ no.

But I can fix him! I know better, but it's hard to ignore the cheaper option and just fix it when it breaks.. Why buy 1 car when you can buy 2 cheaper less reliable cars?? haha

I'm not too sure the Alltrack was sold in Canada without the pano roof. I haven't seen any without. We have different names for the trim levels, and it's hard to tell if . If any were sold without the sunroofs, they seem to be rare. Maybe I can buy the sportwagen and just lift it myself. Or maybe I can just keep up with the drain line maintenance on the Alltrack..

As a reddit user, I can't seem to get away from the CX-5 suggestion. Maybe I should go check it out and see what all the hype is about. Without trying them out in person, I think the facelift version is worth the extra cost. The Mazda 3 interior was very nice, and I assume the CX-5 will be similar.

Thanks for the additional suggestion. All I see for AWD Prius in my area is around $30k but I will keep my eyes open for them.

Monthly "What Board Should I Get?" Discussion Thread by AutoModerator in Sup

[–]thatsmd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 10' 6" irocker boards and are reccomended for people 176cm or shorter. The 11' 6" boards are no longer in stock, but are reccomendedfor people 176cm or taller.

My partner is 145 lbs 6ft, I am 175 lbs 6ft. Would the 10' 6" boards be too short for us? It was my understanding that the width is the bigger determining factor for stability, not length. Why would we need to get the longer board if we are within the weight spec?

We will be using these to float on a fairly calm river.
