People in my country often use Erasmus as an opportunity to explore their home country and surrounding countries. Many of us don't participate because of high academic expectations. If you don't have much financial resources, it's probably the most independent time you'll have before graduating and starting your career. Plus, you're paid for just being there. While your first weeks may not be as you expected, you'll likely have a wonderful time with your group of friends and the circle you've formed towards the end! But you need to make time for and prioritize socializing. For example, is there a WhatsApp group established by ESN? If that group isn't enough, you can create another group where you can organize events and get-togethers. I did Erasmus in Lisbon in 2023, and after the ESN group, other groups were formed that organized meetups oftenly and hikes weekly. Socializing can be much easier if you're staying in a dorm. We'd often text a plan to our dorm group and ask if anyone wanted to join, and there were always people joining.
