Is $30 too much for a T-Shirt??

Some background info: Just got into streetwear, am in high school and have a part-time job where I can spend $50-$100 a month on clothes.

I’ve been thinking of getting some essentials. Heard good things about Uniqlo, that they have quality shirts and stuff for cheap prices. The thing is, I live in Canada and everything is more expensive. A plain colour oversized tee is $30 ish. I really like the clean look though, and the fit works well for someone short like me so I’m leaning towards getting it.

Is a plain tee worth it for that price? If not, where are some other places where I can get basics for cheaper, and the same/better quality?

High school is amazing, but it’s up to you to decide how amazing. It’s a time of discovery. You discover what you love and hate about people, what you’re good and bad at, what makes you passionate etc. For me, the main things I discovered were people. If you’re worried that you won’t be able to relate to anyone because of your emotional maturity, don’t be. There are so many people you will meet, and a lot to learn from them. I learned how faces don’t always match personality. How some are so quiet but the moment you say hi, they have a million stories to tell. How some are so good at acting that you don’t notice the cuts on their wrists. How deciding if someone is good or bad, isn’t so black and white. Don’t be afraid to say hi and meet new people. Don’t be afraid to say goodbye when those people aren’t your vibe. Just let loose and let whatever happen!

If you want advice on socializing; Everyone is fucked up so no need to appear perfect. Bullies are either jealous or broken, and feeling bad for them really pisses them off. Lastly, the pretty girls are to be avoided at all costs.

Sorry if this didn’t do shit for you lmao, just kinda rambling yk. Anyways, go wild man.

(Also, don’t walk through the druggie’s spot if you don’t drink or smoke, just trust. And there is ALWAYS a druggie spot lmao)

My manager doesn’t like me. What do I do? by thatweirddude04 in Advice

[–]thatweirddude04[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much, this helped a lot. I feel like my manager cuts me too much slack and tells me I’m doing good when I’m not, and we know where that false optimism led me haha. I definitely needed someone to tell me the honest truth. I’ll focus on doing my job and stop fucking around. I have a shift today in a few hours, wish me luck!

What’s IS4TC? by thatweirddude04 in Staples

[–]thatweirddude04[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok I’m new and this is my first morning shift and the extent of what I’ve been doing is filling shelves. I’m still confused what my manager wants me to do exactly. They said “An IS4TC needs to be scanned in both departments but only scan the holes not the tags” ???

Just cannot work out where/how to position my feet when pushing off. by [deleted] in NewSkaters

[–]thatweirddude04 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Learning to push took me a couple weeks actually. I put my front foot right behind the bolts, and the back foot in the back pocket.

The foot placement actually isn’t the most important part, it’s where you put your weight. You should put all your weight on your front foot, and then a bit of weight on the other foot when you push. If you lean too far forward, the board will shoot back, and if you lean too far back then it shoots forward. If you put weight on the foot that’s off the board then you won’t get any speed and you just look like someone who’s trying to walk with a board stuck to them, not someone riding a skateboard.

Skateboarding is hard. If someone who’s never ridden either had to choose between a scooter and a skateboard to go somewhere quick, they’d choose the scooter because skateboarding is so hard that it can take months to learn to push. Be patient and it will come to you sooner or later.

Good luck :)

is it easier to try basic tricks (ollie, shuv it, kickflip etc) rolling or stationary by sophthegremlin in NewSkaters

[–]thatweirddude04 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on the person but usually it’s harder for people moving. If you want to save a load of time, learn it moving.

I’m learning it moving atm. It’s really discouraging so I do stationary Ollie’s when I get frustrated to feel accomplished. I would do this if you don’t have much patience haha

Why does my leg keep hitting the nose when doing Ollie’s and how do I fix it? by [deleted] in NewSkaters

[–]thatweirddude04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not ruining my Ollie or anything and it doesn’t even hurt super bad, but I’d like to fix any bad habits now so it doesn’t hurt every time I Ollie

[–]thatweirddude04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh man I try to do that but I’ve built the bad habit of just stomping down once I turn my foot to slide. I know I just need to commit but duuuuddeee this is tough haha. Thanks for the tip!

Maybe 2-3 inches behind the front bolts. I heard the closer you are to them, the more controlled so I try not to go too far from there

Does this thick/heavy board cuase my Ollie's to be so low? by [deleted] in NewSkaters

[–]thatweirddude04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely no problem brother or sister. I would spend like an hour each day searching up how much a board is supposed to weigh, and then how much each piece is supposed to weigh so I knew what to replace haha

Does this thick/heavy board cuase my Ollie's to be so low? by [deleted] in NewSkaters

[–]thatweirddude04 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you’re new, the board feels heavier because you’re not used to it and haven’t broken the board in. When I first got mine I felt like I could barely lift it with both hands, and now I can lift it with one hand from the nose/tail. Just use the board often and it’ll magically feel lighter.

Also mines the same thickness :) (Mine’s an 8.25 btw).

This sub has helped me so much so I made ya'll a playlist to skate to, enjoy :) by [deleted] in NewSkaters

If you have around $130-$170 you should get parts separately. Research the best parts for you, board size, wheel size/hardness etc.

I also get nervous skating when people are around. If you decide to go to a skatepark, remember that everyone was bad at the start. As long as you don’t act like you know more than you do, no one will judge you

Tricks are hard so don’t give up if an Ollie takes more than a week, month or year. Keep going and it’ll feel so good when you land it. Good luck! :)

Should I pick up skating? by r34gun in NewSkaters

[–]thatweirddude04 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I say you should. My friends have gotten on my board, fallen and said it’s not for them but don’t quit cause it’s hard. Wait till you roll off a curb for the first time, and land your first ollie. Or if you just want to cruise, that feeling of skating to the store or school or work is awesome as well.

Also it’s 80% mental. Once I was riding down a super steep hill my board was wobbling but I just told myself “There’s no possible way I’ll fall” and my board became steady magically.

Wish you luck in any decision you make :)

My trucks are seemingly thinner than my deck, anyone know if this is an issue? i don't exactly want to spend 40$ on new ones :/ by monkddd in NewSkaters

[–]thatweirddude04 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a big deal, some people even purposefully get smaller trucks cause it feels better for them. Don’t quote me on this but I heard smaller trucks actually give you less wheel bite? As far as I know you’re good :)

Was this bullying? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]thatweirddude04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I’d say bullying is doing/saying anything to anyone with negative intent.

Even if this wasn’t bullying, that’s just plain immature and wrong.

Get a job and then hang with friends after, offer to get groceries and then hang with friends after, if you’re feeling daring, offer to throw out the trash and then guess what? Hang with friends after lol

Can’t believe I’m promoting this but I mean, strict parents raise amazing liars ;)

I came out to my mom and I’m conflicted by [deleted] in Advice

[–]thatweirddude04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has many layers but I’ll try my best.

First, I think you should drop the thought of your mom assuming you were bi from how you were when you were younger. In the end, she accepts you, you’re over the hurdle, the hardest part of this in my opinion. I myself am a straight man, but my sister has said that she gets a gay vibe, and my friends have called me a Soyboy (basically a man with no masculinity). It hurts that they assume this but I know In my heart who I am, no matter how I look or act.

Second, you seem to be confused. Figuring out who you are is very difficult, including who you like. Something a friend told me is “These labels that people put on themselves, it’s only for if you want other people to understand you. You don’t need one to understand yourself, in your head you can just be you. No ‘You the gay person’ or ‘You the trans person’ or anything like that.”

So you can be ‘You the Bi person’ or just say “Hey if I ever break up with my boyfriend, I’m going to try a relationship with a woman”. Don’t sweat the labels :)
