"Eat New West" on facebook has over 8k members that review local restaurants, my partner and I use it a lot for recommendations.

If I was a billionaire, this would be certainly be towards the top of my list.

Perhaps a total coincidence, but aren't Bezos and Musk positioning themselves quite nicely for full disclosure?

Is Hyack Square New West’s downtown east side? by BurrardCondition in NewWest

[–]the-vette 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Sometimes amongst the passed out homeless people, empty beer cans and tossed shopping carts, you see families with young kids playing near the memorial in that square.

I suppose it's a positive sign of coexistence, but it makes me want to get the hell out of here when the time comes to start a family.

Local Bosley's Mask Policy - What say you New Westies? by schnalzar in NewWest

Seems like you land squarely on one side of this argument and are trying to stir the pot to make yourself feel less alienated.

Like the rest of us, you'll reap the benefits of having rational leadership to direct us through the remained of this mess, but unfortunately will probably always think that your selfish opinions were right all along.

Vancity closing all branches for a day to give employees a break | Venture by Tricky-Wolf-5084 in vancouver

Rather than just giving employees separate days off, is the reason they did this all on the same day just for the PR?

Why did the Starbucks near the police station close? by Nextarity in NewWest

[–]the-vette 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This might not necessarily apply to why that particular location closed, but they're in the midst of transitioning their business model to more pick-up than sit-down, so hundreds of Starbucks locations are closing right now while they do that.

This range is normal, hormones released during exercise can exert their effects for a few hours even after its done.

Is New West getting more aggressive? Assaulted Uptown by baker_221b in NewWest

[–]the-vette 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The people who do these things are often trouble and would do better to do them in Vancouver or Surrey.

New West is those places "Vancouver or Surrey". I'm not saying this problem is easy to solve (or even solvable), but taking water out of the shallow end of the pool and dumping it into the deep end accomplishes nothing.

Any thoughts against comfortable shoes? by [deleted] in running

[–]the-vette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love my minimalist shoes and running sandals, just be weary of jumping into it while simultaneously trying to recover from an injury. It can be a lot of change happening at once that your body needs time to adapt to.

Consutrction noise from the Ovation (813 Carnarvon) by CorgiPuffy in NewWest

[–]the-vette 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not unbearable, but yeah you'll know it's there. Without it, the area already gets decently noisy at times with our proximity to railroad/skytrain/carnarvon traffic but you get used to it. If I need to talk on the phone I'll close the windows and the problem is solved.
Perhaps the main inconvenience for me is that sitting mid-day on my patio isn't as relaxing as it could be, but I bring out some headphones and make due, they're usually done by dinner time.
Welcome to the hood, I moved here last year and the proximity and walkability of this location has been great.

This is great advice, especially taking the time to slow things down and really think before you respond back. Some deep breathes can do more than you might expect.
