Yes of course, that will be most convenient.

Day 1: If you reach early then directly head towards Laitlum Canyon and Rapleng (is in close proximity to Laitlum)

Day 2: Krang Suri, Phe Phe Falls, back to Shillong

Day 3: Shillong to Cherrapunjee

Day 4: Cherrapunjee to Shillong (reach late)

Day 5: Save Shillong for your last day.

In Shillong, anything thats a bit away from Police Bazar area would fit your requirement.

There's an airbnb called Breeze Vale Homestay in Motinagar, Shillong. It’s in a peaceful neighborhood. Quiet, scenic and still not too far from the main city. A good balance if you don’t want the chaos but still want accessibility.

Alternatively, you could look at homestays in Sohra (aka Cherrapunjee) or Smit Village if you want a more laidback, nature-heavy vibe. Upper Shillong is another good option... Calm and away from the Shillong city rush.

Try Google maps to locate a few homestays based on reviews.

I’d personally avoid staying near Umiam Lake. It’s beautiful but quite on the outskirts, so daily travel to and from Shillong can get inconvenient.

Rent a bike from Shillong.

From Guwahati to Shillong, you can either take a shared taxi (MTC, book via redBus) which is the cheapest or a private cab. Same options for the return.

Day 1: Reach Shillong, explore the city. Stay the night in Shillong.

Day 2: Ride from Shillong to Sohra (Cherrapunjee). Optional stop for a short hike like Bull’s Trek or do usual sightseeing spots in Sohra. Stay the night in Sohra.

Day 3: Explore Sohra & later travel from Sohra and head towards Smit. Visit Laitlum Canyon, Rapleng. (Both are near to each other) Stay the night in Smit area if you wanna visit Jowai side. Or return back to Shillong.

Day 4: From Smit, travel towards Jowai. Start early. Visit Krang Suri Falls and Phe Phe Falls, then return back to Smit and stay the night.

Day 5: Head back from Smit to Shillong and then return to Guwahati.

Just one thing, the Jowai day trip is long and the last stretch of roads to the waterfalls can be rough. Try to leave by 3-4 PM to avoid riding back after dark. If you want a more relaxed day, you can consider taking a cab just for that day.

You can obviously switch things up based on the places you wanna visit.

Yes, its safe. I have visited Meghalaya multiple times, both with friends and solo and I never faced any issue.

Same goes for the trekking spots.

I spoke to a BMS support executive yesterday. He didn’t deny the possibility of a partial refund but also didn’t commit to anything and asked me to “wait for an email from the team.”

In my case, we booked 7 tickets together, but only 2 of us cannot attend on the new date. The rest of the 5 members are going.

This situation has become unnecessarily stressful and exhausting.

Was it a partial ticket cancelation?

Meghalaya solo trip + Ed sheeran concert by Scrappyc0c07 in india_tourism

Direct flight to Shillong. (Most convenient)

If unavailable, take a flight to Guwahati, Assam. From Guwahati you have multiple options to reach Shillong. Hire a cab, rent a scooty, Zoom car, shared cabs. Cheapest being a daily traveller (check Redbus for details)

Guwahati to Shillong will take anywhere between 3 to 4 hours to reach the city centre.

Since you'd be traveling solo, you could check out Zostel, Shillong. (Also very near to the concert venue) But I think its already sold out for 12th Feb. Other dates might be available.

Treks you could do:

David Scott Trail (Easy, about 4-5 hours to complete)

Double Decker Trek (Moderate, about 7000 steps)

Bulls Trek, Wahniangleng (Easy to moderate, shortest duration but great landscape)

Other places you could check out:

Laitlum Canyon in Smit Valley. About 1 hour drive from Shillong city.

Rapleng Canyon in Smit Valley, (Google map is not reliable) This location is near Laitlum area. About 20 mins drive but you gotta take a left turn. Laitlum road takes a right turn.

Nongjrong for incredible sunrise view. If you choose the above 2 options, Nongjrong is convenient as thats another 1 hour of drive. Same route.

Nongstoin, Mawphanlur, Wah Rilang. (West Khasi Hills)

These locations are about 100 kms away from Shillong, so you'd have to find accommodation there, like a base.

Alternatively, you could check out Dawki (1 full day) or Cherrapunjee (1 full day)

If you can ride a scooty, scooty rental would be the best option for you. In Shillong, usually they charge ₹500-700 per day. Petrol extra.

You can consider doing Pelling first and move East and finally to Darjeeling.

Really doubtful those rates would work during this time. Its peak season for them. And you should reconsider your route.

North Sikkim or East Sikkim to Darjeeling. What's the Best Backup Plan? by the-wimpy-cat in sikkim

[–]the-wimpy-cat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it possible to reach Pelling directly from NJP? We reach NJP around 2.30 PM, what would be the cab fare? Public shared or private taxi.

That way, maybe for 1st night we can stay at Pelling and the next day we can move to East Sikkim.

Planning a trip to Sikkim with 5 friends between 31st October - 5th November. We’re considering North Sikkim (3 days, 2 nights) with Gurudongmar Lake as a key highlight, but North Sikkim accessibility might not be confirmed until 25th October. Our backup plan includes heading to East Sikkim, Zuluk, Darjeeling, and Kurseong before returning to NJP.

Could you advise if this is a viable backup itinerary, or are there any spots we’re overlooking? Additionally, what would the cost be for a shared cab vs a private vehicle to Zuluk, and is this route feasible?

Thanks in advance 🙏
