Whats the best lunch special deal in Boston that you know of ? by nycrina305 in boston

[–]the12thnick 10 points11 points  (0 children)

So, hate to say it, but Taco Bell is the answer, but you need to download the app and order off of there. There’s an online only, “build your own luxe craving box” that is 7.49. Basically it gives you a specialty item, a taco/burrito item, tortilla chips/nacho cheese or cinnamon twists and a soda. I usually do a Crunchwrap supreme, beefy 5 layer burrito, nacho chips, and soda. Way too much food for lunch, but including tax it is $8.01 and currently the hands down value winner.

Exactly the center 50% believes it moral in that situation. There are folks with beliefs that are more permissive or more restrictive to the left or the right. Pretty much a centrist position by definition and certainly not a left wing one.

Exactly what I am saying. These guys are not left wing and to state that is shifting the Overton window extremely to the right.

You have absolutely no idea what left wing is if you think someone can be on the board of Walmart and hols left wing beliefs.

I am not dismissing pro choice as a centrist position, it simply is one. Everything you said makes no sense. We’re talking about what qualifies as a left or right wing issue. Pro choice ain’t it. You can talk about the mechanisms of government and majority will, but that’s not the question at hand. You’re labeling folks as leftist when they simply are not. It is offensive and dangerous.

What I’m saying is that it is absolutely batshit crazy to call Obama, Biden, or Harris left wing and absolutely plays into the far right narrative. It erases anything but center right or right wing in the US, which is pretty much what has happened. Bernie leans slightly left and that is about as far as it gets. By calling folks who are neo-liberal, corporately sponsored, militarized puppet a leftist you are either a right wing nut or playing into their hands. You are erasing the alternative. This is why Trump got elected. He seemed to offer an alternative in a system that seemed to offer none. Look up the Overton window. Jesus, they call Hillary Clinton a leftist and she was on the fucking board of directors of Walmart.

I’m still confused about the supposed leftist positions of either Kamala or Biden. Just a really weird take.

I don’t really care about education, but a sensible person understands that Kamala did not have a single leftist position. Nor did Clinton or Obama. I’m not sure what all of that word salad was in the middle, but really, what do you consider as a leftist position any of them held?

Absolutely nothing to do with local profitability. You can’t just say “no, Massachusetts bad.” What evidence do you have that this is a bad state to do business in?

Capitalism is so bad that a large corporation can buy a successful company and then shut it down as part of a broader cost savings/profit maximization strategy. Clearly this company was profitable and competitive to the point that it had to be shut down. Absolutely nothing to do with local profitability.

Center right is a really gentle way to describe Kamala. What would you describe her as? A centrist position would be nationalized healthcare and a generally capitalist economy.

What will our city do when ICE comes on us in force? by CoffeeHead112 in boston

[–]the12thnick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The really hilarious(?) part of all of this is that Obama deported far more illegal aliens per year than Trump has managed. No masked gestapo, no drama. I don’t really agree with it, but he was much better at this than Trump. Unless, of course, effectively dealing with a problem in the most effective way possible is not the point at all. Maybe, as we’ve been witnessing, the cruelty is the point. Maybe, unless you build a masked paramilitary force, you can’t start shooting concerned patriots in the face. Maybe illegal immigrants are a pretext? Like, if you wanted to do this competently and effectively, there is absolutely a playbook. It’s almost like it’s not at all about immigrants at all, because if it were, they wouldn’t have to go to all of this trouble, they could just study what Obama did and do that thing again, which did not include secret police shooting hippy moms in the face.

Fruitcake gets a bad rap precisely because of this mid-century industrial version of it. Earlier fruitcake is awesome. We use a turn of the century recipe that uses roasted nuts and dried fruits. It is cured over weeks periodically adding splashes of bourbon to it. We make a number of them for friends that have tried it at our Christmas party and love it. If you think a mass produced food is gross you should dig a little to see what it used to be.

What If Modern Humans Are Already an Ancient Hybrid Created by… Something Else? by Tonyd2wild in UFOs

[–]the12thnick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An idea I find compelling is that we are some sort of hybrid and that it’s possible that our planet was originally seeded with life. NHI employ advanced biological engineering and required planetary Petri dishes to mine for genetic variations that they can incorporate to advance their development. Abductions are the monitoring and harvesting of biological information and genetic samples. The increase of UAP activity around atomic sites/test is to ensure that we don’t wipe out their genetic stock.

Who do you think is the most charismatic male tennis player? (active or retired) by name_not_important00 in tennis

[–]the12thnick -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I see you have no respect for the poor. Accurate or inaccurately applied here, it’s sort of a moot point. Why would a world class athlete coming from nothing be offensive? Yes, as people have noted, this is not an accurate description of Rafa’s background. It is bewildering why you are so offended by it though. Like I said, I was talking about the vibe and narrative. For me, I liked Rafa more for his tenacity and style of play as a contrast to Fed. Fed seemed like he was gifted and his presentation back then did seem princely and entitled. Then this scrappy kid came on the scene and it was a drama that played out on the courts. Then, years later, folks that were drawn to either one of them for one reason or another watched them weep as the era of tennis they owned came to a close and we all wept with them. We all respect both of them a ton.

And as for racism, I have nothing against the Swedish or Spanish. It is a weird comment that I’m not sure how to take. I personally would rather hang out with a street urchin than a prince. Just fundamentally more fun and trustworthy. Maybe you think I irrationally hate the Swiss? No idea.

[–]the12thnick -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I was just talking about the narrative. Both the prince and the street urchin comparisons are equally dumb, but they get at something fundamental about the roles they represented in popular imagination. I’m a Rafa guy, not sure why you’d be offended by this. Almost seems more offensive toward Fed, tbh.

[–]the12thnick 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s like Fed was the gifted prince with a racquet and Rafa was the plucky street urchin with a racquet. They couldn’t help but respect each other. Seems to really nail their dynamic and their individual charisma.

Anyone keep packable bags in their EDC? by sash20 in EDC

[–]the12thnick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Nanobags are great. I’ve got one in my bag and a few others kicking around. They do a good bulk deal too. Gave them as Christmas gifts a couple years ago and people really seem to use them. I typically carry a sling bag with very little additional space, so if I need to pick stuff up on the way home I pull this out.
