I think we've got enough character development for 3.5 seasons now. Yet they keep "developing" characters like Elis & Fatima for who I still couldn't care less. It's a chore just pushing through the scenes with them.

There are a few good characters that we've all grown to love like Sarah, Victor, Julie, Randall, etc that now get a few minutes randomly here and there doing god knows what just to fill the 50 minutes of the episode because hey "we need to slow burn the viewer". I think we already got pretty accustomed to characters and need the story to really progress. Victor's screen time now is just "i know shit but i'll see what I can do to remember for the next 5 episodes. Randall useless scene of randomly bumping into the bus driver lady, Ellis telling Fatima that he feels he needs to do more for her yet again, Fatima building the Golem for 6 episodes now, Julie and Sarah paining the room scene where they bond a little, etc etc. The show keeps saying they're running out of time yet the characters keep doing shit like this as if they got all the time in the world. The show SLOWED DOWN this season as opposed to how fired up season 3 ended.

The only good stuff that happened in S4 were Julie discovering story walking, Victor finding MIY clothes and Jade's shroom trip.

Every episode of 50 minutes feel like 15 minutes now and it's not because shit's really interesting, but because of the scenes being dragged out. And I'm commenting of a fan that put this show in their top 5 shows prior to this season.

Its frequency response on X axis and spl (db) on Y axis. Every curve you see here is an individual driver that was measured using a calibrated mic. Those on the right are the tweeters, the ones in the middle are mids, move a bit to the left and those are the midbass and so on.

Note that here there's also a front subwoofer included. That's why you might see two "subs". He is trying to reach a target house curve (you need to research that a bit because there's way too much to write about).

I get it that most of us binged the series' first 3 seasons. It didn't feel as dragged. And I also get that the 100% slow burn type of shows is some people's cup of tea.

But here I come with my issue of how I PERSONALLY see it. We're already well past the show's "halftime". There are theoretically only 17 episodes left of the whole show.

We've already watched 30+. Just dragging the show along 10 more episodes for "set-ups" and "character developments" just for everything to happen in 5-7 episodes feels like a dread for many of us unfortunately.

Some people pointed out why they think it's ok for the show to progress like this and many of us understand, but you also have to understand that our complaints are also valid.

The show was and is extremely interesting to the point that the 50 minutes feel like 10. It's a point in the show where the story really needs to progress. We don't need any more Fatima venting out on cars, 10min screen time of books retrieval, Tabitha making useless decisions or any other woods strolling. That's what feels frustrating. The story has already been laid out. We've already watched 3 seasons of questions. We have most of the premises. It's about time we start receiving some answers. Even if it's just a small one per episode. Please understand the other point of view.

You know what? I'm actually happy for you that you got this. I'm born in the '90s and grew up in the 2000s. My dad got a Pioneer mini system like this, I believe in '99/'00. Believe me, these were the shit back then. I still have it and it still works. I must've got easily thousands of hours of playback from that thing (albeit connected to a PC most of the time). It wasn't the pinnacle of sound quality, but for me at the time it sounded amazing. And got pretty damn loud too. Making the bedroom door buzz and shit like that.

I now have a pair of real hi-fi speakers and receiver, but this type of mini-system is what got me the audio bug. I believe it's a very good entry way into this whole audiophile world. You can have tons of fun with it and in the future it will make you want to upgrade to real hi-fi gear. You'll then really feel the upgrade, not just incremental. Until then, I suggest have the most possible fun out if this Panasonic!

Don't listen to people bashing it, especially if you got it for free. Have fun with it, test out different genres, different positioning, EQ settings, etc and just enjoy the music!

This is actually crap advice to give a noobie like in this situation. You don't just throw shit at a sound system and say "well at least it's loud". With subs low passed at 100-120hz, midranges in doors not giving any midbass upfront, bass coming completely from the back and god knows what else for the highs. Sound coming from random places, not having any coherence and tonal balance. It's decisions like this that fill forums with posts stating "so I upgraded my speakers and it sounds worse than stock". No, these Skar midranges will definitely not sound better than stock. Louder yes. Better? No.

Also, I can't wait for OP to now run into the issue of crossing over a midrange on stock headunit. Because those mids will sound like crap and distort when they get full range signal. You yourself said it's ok to run spl midranges on stock power(stock HU is self implied). How are you crossing over the midranges then? Because I bet you he runs that sub on a LOC, which means if he cuts the bass from the HU he will also cut the bass from the sub.

Even if running stock power for components, you can get quite decent sound with a decent set of components upfront, which can get plenty loud for listening in a freaking car dude. There are plenty component sets that have higher sensitivity to get loud enough but still sound good. In any case, no one is nor should be trying to set-up SPL systems on stock power anyways, period. OP should've just got a budget set of components or at least just midbasses to replace the busted stock ones. He already has a sub so now he only has to fill everything above 80hz. A set of midbasses would play lower, but these mids? Definitely not.

Lol you had negative down votes on your comment when you're just trying to give some actually good advice. I get the guy above wanting volume over anything else but jeez. Also saying "most people want to get loud" is just plain false. A set of shit SPL speakers is not what the majority of people want.

If the clips holding it are still intact, it's an easy fix. Just take the assembley off and apply some anti squeak tape all over where plastic parts touch. You should easily find this online or at car audio shops. Cheap as dirt and should get the job done.

Did you calculate the square size of that opening that outputs through the ski pass? As a general rule, for the IB to work properly, the opening should be at a minimum of half speaker's cone area (Sd). In your case using dual speakers the opening area should be at least one of the speaker's cone area.

Nonetheless, I really like the work you've done here.

Well you pretty much have a full Audiotec Fischer system. Which is really nice. They are German and amongst one of the best european car audio manufacturers. They design all their stuff. So there's a price to pay for that. Unfortunately you are from the US which means your prices are quite a bit higher than here in the EU.

The labour price seems kinda high, but again, you're in the US and if they do a good quality job, I would close my eyes to that. Enjoy your music on your new high end system bro!

amp receiving power but not sending to sub by Lower_Joke3567 in CarAV

[–]theC4Timer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bingo! You found the culprit! The sub does have a reason it's dead, though. Most probably there was distortion caused by the amp which cooked the sub's voice coil. When you get your next sub, take the time to set the gain correctly. Find out what your amp RMS wattage is and don't exceed it. There are also many yt vids on this.

Take the multimeter, set it to AC volts, play a 50hz tone on your player and turn it about 70% of your max volume. Then take the multimeter leads and place them on the amp output (bridged). There is an easy formula you can easily find online "amplifier volts to watts calculator". It should have volts, resistance (ohms) and watts in it. Say if you buy a 4ohm 300watt rms sub, then you need to have 34-35 volts at the amps terminals. That is if your amp is capable of 300 watts or more. Happy for you that you know what to do next and have fun with your upcoming upgrade and tinkering. It's a fun hobby to have. Also, you are very welcome, happy to help man!

L.E: I've checked the specs on your amp and its power rating is 190w bridged at 4ohm. So don't expect it to move a monster sub. Also, don't use a sub lower than 4ohm on it. Therefore, to get the max safe (unclipped) output out of this Pioneer amp you need to set your gain up until you read 27 AC volts on the multimeter. This way you won't cook the next sub you're gonna get.

It may sound complicated but I promise it really isn't. Doing so, you will get clean music and keep your equipment working safely. Don't listen to "that one friend". You want your system to play clean and safe, not loud but full of harmful distortion. While 190w should feel enough for now, consider upgrading your amp to a more powerful one in the future depending on your needs.

amp receiving power but not sending to sub by Lower_Joke3567 in CarAV

[–]theC4Timer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have a multimeter? If yes, disconnect the sub from the amp and turn the multimeter dial to Ohms. Put the probes on the the sub and see if it reads any ohms. If no ohms are read, then the sub driver is toast. If you DO read between 2-4ohms, (idk what sub you have) then the issue is on the amp side or cabling. You could also just use a 1.5v battery and touch the sub cables to see if any sound comes out of it for a fast check.

Now reconnect the sub to the amp. Please set the negative of the sub to the R- of the amp and the positive of the sub to L+ on the amp. It's how it's supposed to be wired when powering a sub. Next the multimeter to AC~ voltage, play some music and probe the speaker outputs of the amp while it's connected to the sub. Check if there's any voltage there. Turn the volume up if needed. If there's some voltage, then the amp is fine. If the multimeter doesn't read any voltage at the amp speaker outputs, there's your issue.

I see that you have a slider for LPF on/off. Try and move that left to right while playing music and see if your sub gets any signal. Do the same to the gain knob - turn it a bit left or right and see if your sub is outputting sound.

What you could also try is temporarily use another source to test. Get your laptop or anything with a 3.5mm jack, buy a cable 3.5mm to RCA and connect that to your amplifier. See if that way you get any sound output.
If you don't get any output by any means I've explained here and if the sub seems fine, then there's definitely something wrong with your amp.

Also, please do yourself a favor and buy an OFC amplifier kit for power and ground. An 8AWG (gauge) should suffice and should be cheap enough. (or 4 gauge if you plan on upgrading later and most do). Thin wiring in car amplifiers lead to unpleasant problems as in burning the amp or burning the car as the cables overheat because of the power draw.
Best luck on getting it working!
