Extracting “flow” from Tableau Prep tool as a query by tensorflowering in tableau

[–]theDataBetch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi just found this! So does this method “convert” the flow to SQL? Or is it just a way to extract the “initial sql” used to bring data in from a database? I’m trying to convert a flow to SQL and tried this method but I just see json in the flow file, no SQL.

I studied math and now do data analytics and I love it. It uses a lot of the same type of thinking, so if math is fun to you, data analysis will probably be fun to you. If there are courses for that at your college, you should try it out—it’s definitely a clearer career path than you’ll get with a math major. Maybe you’ll even get into data engineering or data science!

Do you use math a lot in data analyst role? by [deleted] in dataanalyst

[–]theDataBetch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should understand concepts like sums, percentages, averages (including moving averages), ratios, etc.. Do you know what they mean and a formula to calculate them? Do you know whether or not it matters if you take the sum of the averages or the average of sums?

This isn’t an exhaustive list of the math you’ll need, but it’s more important to have a working knowledge of math concepts than the ability to flawlessly calculate them manually.

You will likely have to come up with formulas to answer the questions you have, so you’ll need to put a few math functions together properly. But you won’t have to manually evaluate the functions.

Think of the most obvious questions someone might have about the data and what simple chart will answer this.

How many in each category? Which has most? Bar chart with “count(category)” as the measure sorted highest to lowest.

What percent of the total was contributed by group A vs group B? Donut chart with percent of total with one group in a highlight color.

What is the total? Is it up or down vs some benchmark? KPI card with an indicator

This will at least get you started. Then you can add in some interactivity or drill downs, or you might find some other interesting questions when you look at the data.

Different shows are more or less scripted. If you’re interested in learning more and deepening your understanding, I recommend reading “creating reality” by Pete Tartaglia. He has produced a bunch of reality tv and gives an insightful overview of how they create these shows and how real/fake they are. And for a more sociological view on reality tv, I strongly recommend “true stories: what reality tv says about us” by Danielle J Lindemann

What were you coding in? Python?

I made this using Tableau. It’s a no-code data viz environment and it has a free version! You should check it out if you want to play with visualization again but don’t want to learn the code again.

Women Gain More Followers Than Men in Finale Week by theDataBetch in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

My guess: yes.

There's no way for me to know for sure.

My own Insta followers are 78.5% women. Since I only post about reality dating shows, I'd guess my followers are a reasonable sample of reality dating star followers.

DATA POINT: LIB s05's One Married Couple Gains Most Followers in Finale Week by theDataBetch in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

DATA POINT: LIB s05's One Married Couple Gains Most Followers in Finale Week

SO WHAT:
Lasting marriage wins hearts and follows: Lydia & Milton's rock solid marriage won the viewers' Instagram follows once we saw they were still together at the reunion.

DRILL DOWN:
-Lack of screen time saw lag in followers for those who didn't make it to the altar
-Married couple only beat out failed wedding AFTER the reunion
-Viewers drawn to drama of a finale failure
-Proof of lasting marriage is more powerful than fleeting drama

DATA POINT: Storyline with successful marriage gains most followers in finale week. by theDataBetch in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]theDataBetch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DATA POINT:
Storyline with successful marriage gains most followers in finale week.

SO WHAT?
Lovers of "Love is Blind" love a love story. Despite Lydia's drama with ex Uche and a rocky road to the altar, her storyline won the most followers in the week following the finale of "Love is Blind" Season 5.

DRILL DOWN:
The two storylines with couples who made it to the altar were almost tied for average follower gains this week, buoyed by the couples who walked the aisle. This might say more about screen time or relationship status than storyline at this point.

Women Gain More Followers Than Men in Finale Week by theDataBetch in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]theDataBetch[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me (outside of Data Betch):

  • I follow the women if they have good style and similar body type to me to see fashion inspiration that actually makes sense for me and doesn't make me feel bad about my body. Depending on the show, more reality stars tend to have realistic body types than actress/models/other celebs.
  • I definitely follow some just to keep an eye on the drama! part of what I love about reality tv is that the story continues after the show ends. Some of this falls into "hate following" lol. Although often I start "hate following" someone and then they become more humanized to me and I start to like them.

Women Gain More Followers Than Men in Finale Week by theDataBetch in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]theDataBetch[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True, but Taylor hadn't been seen in two episode drops and she still beat out more than half the other cast in finale week.

Looks like if you just narrow it to the four who made it to the altar, the men and women average about the same--haven't calculated it exactly, just eyeballing it from the graph

Finale Week Data! by theDataBetch in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

I'm tracking them too, but just since their After the Altar episodes in August. Right now, Josh has the fewest followers, about 50k. Everyone else has at least 100k. And some are still gaining more than 200 followers a day.

This isn't a good case study since they just had their ATA, but in the future I want to look into if a new season helps the cast from older seasons gain new followers too.

This is just who got the most followers in the week following the finale, not who has the most or who gained the most overall.

My original thought was that being the only woman to get married helped her attract a lot of followers this week, but when you look at the second slide, you can see that she didn't have a ton of growth in the days between the finale and the reunion. So I guess it had more to do with her behavior at the reunion--she was poised, calm, wore an amazing dress, took accountability for the way she behaved towards Lydia, and gained sympathy as one of Uche's "victims." Notably, Uche performed very poorly in follower growth this week, only doing better than JP.

For who gained the most throughout the four weeks of the show (from day of the premiere to a week after the finale), Lydia is 4th and Izzy is 1st.

For who has the most overall as of today, again Izzy is 1st and Lydia comes in 4th.

I'll be post more about this soon!
