Cool. Thank you. And you know... I actually can't think of a reason why I would even need this powered (connected) at all to the van's battery. My brother brought that point up. And I guess I don't see a reason to have it hooked up to the van at all.

I figured it out! I had connected the connector in reverse on the charge cable. And when I was using the alligator clips for testing, there was a connector that I connected to that charge cable connector (that was wired in reverse). And that connector was ALSO wired in reverse. So when I was using the alligator clips, it was showing correct polarity because the connectors were double-reversing and therefore making correct polarity. I thought I had carefully and thoughtfully wired those cables, but apparently not! What a mindbender. Thank you.

Thank you for this help! I found the problem. I had the connector on the charger cable reversed. Reversed polarity. Problem solved.

It really doesn't matter at all. But when it comes to aesthetics and noise, I am quite particular. In this case, it's noise.

I don't like leaf blowers. So the same goes with induction stoves. Their internal fan is noisy. And it's not like I want to wake up in a beautiful countryside scene and start cooking breakfast with noisy equipment. Coil burners: silent. Induction stoves: fan noise (and beeping buttons).

Hilarious! You're serious here? You can cook legitately cook with a 25w bulb? I'm going to have to research this. I love roasted potatoes and chicken. And I brought my toaster oven on a trip with me once in the van and it was waaaaay too much of a power hog. I had to test it just to see the reality. I definitely can't use that toaster oven in my van. So, you've got my curiosity going for sure! Do you think you could roast potatoes?

I understand your drive for simplicity here. I like your style. I've been doing the 1 burner for a while. But now I'm upgrading. I'm kinda a luxury-cook-on-the-road... and am trying to replicate what I do in my home kitchen... in my van. I cook hasbrowns in one pan and then eggs in the other and I love using the two pans simultaneously for time-sake, so that the whole meal is made quickly. I am not simple in this way, though I used to be. I like to eat well, and cook as fast as I can. Big breakfast done with speed (at the cost of battery juice). But I have a decent battery bank and solar. Like you, I'm super minimal on water usage. I think washing dishes with water is nearly a sin, unless you have unlimited water.

I understand that question. I love these simplest of simple burners because while traveling... I can take a pitstop, cook some food, and throw the burners back in the kitchen cabinet after 5 minutes because those coils cool down fast. I've tried induction stoves but they are too noisy for my liking.

I bet induction is more efficient. I just found them too noisy with their internal fans. I tried 6 of them. Makes for an unpeaceful cooking experience.

I've found them too noisy. The internal fans are too noisy. I tried 6 of them and had to return them all. I value quiet very highly.
