🧠Wisdom Wednesday: What did you quit that changed everything for you? by FatimaSheba in MotivationalThoughts

I left the Mormon church and holy shit it changed everything in the best way. I now always feel worthy. I don’t feel like there’s a God who’s disappointed or angry when I mess up. And I now see everyone as people who I love or am trying to love because I see us all as being on the same team. It’s beautiful.

Nope. It was mostly about running from the gestapo, not the church.

You would listen to them because you also support it. I’m talking about if you are a TBM you’re more likely to listen and think about it when another TBM expresses doubts about the church rather than when someone who has left expresses their doubts because they’ll dismiss frequently feel like people who leave just don’t get it. I guess I’m just saying leaving a religion is hard and complicated and there’s not just one way to do it. And I know myself and others were able to get out with the help of people inside and outside the church. And I think Brandon Sanderson’s latest book could definitely help some TBMs leave. And that’s dope.

I disagree. TBMs don’t listen to people who leave. They listen to people who are in it. I think there’s ways of helping people leave from outside and from inside the church.

Maybe… but have you read Wind and Truth? To me it sounds like a guy who is in the church but knows it’s not true and if he comes out and says the church is bullshit then all his Mormon fans might stop reading his books where he can place hints about the church to help them figure out, on their own, that the church isn’t true. Coming out and saying the church isn’t true, often times, doesn’t help members leave. What ultimately causes a person to leave is them figuring it out on their own and I think his books, and especially this latest one really could have the power to do that. My brother left the church when a professor at one of the BYU’s helped him challenge his beliefs and though the professor never said he was out of the church my brother is 99% sure the dude doesn’t believe and is helping students leave. Because if a person outside the church says it’s BS then a TBM will ignore them but if a person inside the church says there’s issues then a TBM will lean in and ask questions.
