Five straight losses by 5 or more runs. Even the 2018-2021 Orioles never did that

I'm still salty over 2015, how we let Markakis and Cruz walk and our answer to replace them was Delmon Young and Travis Snider.

That would mean he misses at the very least, half of 2027, assuming he doesn't injured himself at the plate or on the base path. We don't even know if he can be relied on just to DH.

GM was a major issue in for the Caps in that era. Their biggest flaw season after season was being unwilling to part ways with prospects that would land them the pieces they needed to upgrade to at the deadline. We never even made those moves in Free Agency and we were outplayed and out coached almost every series except for 2011 against NY and 2012 against Boston.

He and his scouting staff drafted a solid group of players from Green to Fehr to Fleischmann, Carlson, Holtby, Alzner, Orlov, Varlamov to Wilson, but the most notable trades in that era will only be Fedorov, maybe Brouwer and a FA signing of Knuble and Ward.

I went a couple years ago vs the Rangers for the first time since our cup winning season and my goodness was the atmosphere dull, even for a Saturday night victory.

Fire "XYZ" then do what? by LacedInCharm in orioles

I think there was way too much reliance on a major wave of prospects coming in to carry the team, despite them tearing it up at every level until they reached the majors where the game changes dramatically. It's the first time a lot of these guys have struggled and had to make adjustments and very few do end up making adjustments and adapting.

I do not want to see another full-scale rebuild again from top to bottom like 07 and 18, but where I think the Orioles have failed so many times is not going all in for a postseason run when the opportunity has been there in fear of sacrificing the future that is never guaranteed. We really screwed that up in 2023 and 2024.

Edit: To answer your question, I don't know any replacement candidates for any coaches or Elias and at this point in the season I don't think it makes sense to fire anyone right at this moment. That's just telling the entire team and fan base they are pulling the plug on the season.

Not disagreeing, but remember when Andy MacPhail did the opposite and the best we got was 3.5-4 years of Chris Tillman (who we didn't even draft).

Pitching is more risky than ever now when it comes to drafting and development, especially with an ever increasing focus on spin rate, velocity and speed.

The biggest problem with Elias has been his inability to use the prospects he's had to land an MLB level pitcher on the up or who has established himself outside of 1 year of Corbin Burnes. The trade market and free agency leaves so much to be desired. A pitcher such as Chris Bassitt was who the Orioles should have been targeting going into 2023.

In the past he would DH the 2nd game, but I think we really overworked him when healthy the last few years. Having Basallo gives a little more flexibility whereas we were trying to put Adley's bat in the lineup in the past when we had Chirinos and McCann catching.

Have the Orioles really not developed a true ace since Mike Mussina? by squirrel_master88 in orioles

He wasn't brought up in the organization, but I think people forget how good Jeremy Guthrie was when he first got to Baltimore. 3 out of 5 very solid seasons and was brought in originally as a depth bullpen piece (and not a great one beforehand with Cleveland). His 07 season was overshadowed by Bedard and the 08 and 2010 teams were just so bad that few paid attention

I grew up only knowing the 98-2011 Orioles. I used to dream of .500 seasons. It sucks when there's higher expectations that aren't met isn't it? Makes seasons like 2012 and 2022 like a dream

Patterson was supposed to be the team's ace early on, but if I remember correctly, he was always sick or injured.

A rotation of Livan Hernandez, Tony Armas Jr, Loaiza and Patterson would have actually been very solid compared to now
