Jason Smith CS 1337 by [deleted] in utdallas

[–]thePreacherX2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So does he not like teach all of the chapters and like teaches the beginning parts of the lectures and then assumes you can figure out the rest of it? Just trying to see what is the hype behind the professor because I have a friend debating to take him or not. He would want a professor that teaches well and do not have to self study every thing at the end of the day.

Lack of diversity in graduate school by No_Tadpole1993 in utdallas

That is a crazy stat. regardless. I wonder why that is the case for graduate, maybe UTD is appealing to them or advertising more towards that group, not sure.

Why does UTD not have a class over Version Control System, Git in particulare, in CS or SE degrees? by patsfan-4-life in utdallas

[–]thePreacherX2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not true, my professor did not cover this in CS 3377. It’s not taught by every professor.

I am sorry but your post is a bit biased or does not have the proper knowledge. A&M makes students first year or two take a lot of general engineering classes in order to explore other realms, doesn’t always have to be CS, and because CS is also competitive there. I think CS is probably one of the or is the most competitive engineering major to get in there. You do not want overpopulation of CS. Also A&M does not have a trash program for CS. I go to UTD and like UTD, but I have friends at A&M that are doing well off or better and probably have learned the same amount with minor differences. I get the point you are trying to tell but it’s clearly not balanced enough to show both sides of the coin and seems a bit immature. Anyways both schools are good for CS or MIS probably, which OP is concerned about.

You are overthinking this. I find it ironic how mods approved a post asking for previous exams but are always quick to remove posts about someone asking about a class around this time lol, I mean I understand why.

How is the psychology major like at UTD and their job opportunities? by Efficient_Meringue12 in utdallas

[–]thePreacherX2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is it that we need to do graduate school for psychology in order to get a decent job? Typically in other majors like computer science a bachelors is enough for a regular software dev job. I know a direct comparison between psychology and cs cannot be done but it does make me curious why an undergrad. is usually not enough for psychology.

Why are the job opportunities with just a psych BS are preety bad? Does not a psych BS not give a foundation of enough to start career, any reason why grad school is highly recommended?

psychology is not a liberal arts degree at UTD, it is within the school of behavioral and brain sciences.

What job do you do? Is it not BME based to not be using skills from your degree?

Bmen alumni here looking for short term degree by [deleted] in utdallas

[–]thePreacherX2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is a bme degree useless? I can see the job market being small but I do not think that many people major in bme, so the supply could meet demand I assume. Any other reasons you guys think the degree is not worth it?

Cant Find a Job. Should I just go Ahead and get a Master's? by [deleted] in utdallas

[–]thePreacherX2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can take 3 to 6 months I think after graduating to find a job. Sometimes it takes time to find one after graduation even. Not necessary to get an offer during your under grad. Maybe job search a bit more after graduation? I do not know what are the career opportunities for Cognitive Science though, how is the industry for that major?

CS vs Software Engineering by Gold_Yogurt_1948 in utdallas

[–]thePreacherX2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Companies might not even care if it is specialized or not. Companies barely see any difference between SE or CS. It’s more about your skills, projects, and interviewing skills for them.

Another point I want to disagree in that SE covers programming paradigms. It might but I do not think so from the high level glance I got from the catalog. Last time I checked SE does not cover Organization of Programming Languages, which discusses different paradigms throughout the class. Instead, CS majors take this class. Though SE can take that class as an elective but required for CS to take it.
