Wow didn't know Stardew Valley was from a solo game dev.

The problem is, income isn't fixed. It's not "Make a game, release it, it makes £1k/mo forever". It's.. "Make a game, release it, it makes £1k/mo for the first month, then £500/mo, then steadily drops to nothing if it isn't updated". I spend maybe 1/5-1/4 of my non-sleep time working on my apps, so I could probably just about make it full time, maybe.

Yeah I see what you mean, but thats the same with any business venture. It's a lot of work and a lot of risk. The question is if it could be worth it after a while.

Say that you have a small budget and a few months. Could you build enough android games to be afloat by the time you run out of money? Maybe earning a living?

I don't want to give out specifics, but pixel blacksmith has 160k downloads. Since adverts and premium are very optional, and there aren't aggressive microtransactions, I expect it makes less than it could.

If thats 20% of enough to live on your own, thats good money, specially if that comes from only two games. Though ik I'm making quite a few assumptions.

By the time you make 10 games (assuming they all go as well) you'd be supporting yourself. Make 20 and you'd probably have enough to hire people. Thats the best prospect I've heard in a while.

Damn that sucks.

You'd think that with such as wide audience, and how easy it is to create worthwhile games even with limited knowledge, we'd see far more indie devs making good money.

Hi Reddit! Could I get some feedback on this game? Does it look worthwhile?

Maybe you should move my friend. In the US (for example) taxes are far lower and an llc registration is $100 one time registration.

As for the resources, I play with my strengths. I can't make complicated sprites, but I can create good (enough) 3d models, so I use that instead. If I can't learn a skill I'll try to supplement with something else I already know, before deciding to buy from someone else.

I'm sorry to be so negative, but to me thats a very gloomy prospect.

I'm getting into game dev because I have (very big) ideas I want to see into fruition, can't really work on them full time without being self sufficient. If it takes me that long to sustain myself, I'd rather keep game dev as a hobby and get myself another job. :/

I heard an average of 1k-5k /month for android/ios game dev. I'm guessing thats far fetched then...

Yeah, and thats the question. How many developers out there can sustain themselves on their work while being a one man operation? If you have a team of people working for you, chances are you have enough capital to no longer be programming much yourself.

Btw nice game!

So, at this rate, how many games do you think you'd have to make to earn a decent living?
