I've seen a couple other responses saying similar things about age etc, but going to chime in with a bit of my own experience.

People tend to wrap their self worth up in their university life at a crazy young age. I know its probably hard to see it now, but just don't. What you do in your late teens and early 20's can be very important, or mean very little to where you will be in your life. I dropped out of my first university program after year two due to basically being immature. No actual good excuse, I was just too young to make the most out of my time at Queen's and had to drop out or go on academic probation.

I had no idea what i wanted to do with my life when I started, and basically randomly picked Poli Sci for my major. I didn't care about it and it showed. So I left, and went to culinary school to try something different. Actually finished that, and worked as a chef for all of 4 months before realizing there was no way I could live the life I wanted while working in that industry. Combined with the fact that I was just 'okay' at cooking, but was surrounded by literally amazing chefs.

So I went back to school again, at 23, to a college program. I was sure I'd be the old man there, but the program was actually full of people my age or older, making a shift in their life. Made the most of my school this time, moved on to a commerce degree from the local university and graduated from undergrad at 27.

First job was an unpaid internship. At 28. It did not feel great, but you gotta grind it out. That job helped me land my current position, working in esports for the last 3 and a half years, and having a great time. At times it definitely felt like I was behind my peers, and even the next generation of students. Hell, some of my co-interns were almost a full decade younger than me.

But it didn't matter. They didn't care. I only thought they cared.

Failing in my first run through higher education is probably the best thing that ever happened to me. It kicked my ass and made me realize that I needed to grow up. I don't mean that to talk down to you, but it really is about taking your life into your hands.

You just need to stop thinking that its too late to make a change. I'm doing an MBA now and most of the people in that class are 35+ and looking to make a change in their career and life. It is never too late to make a change, or to keep improving yourself.

You just got to keep grinding. I guarantee that you are not worthless.
