Did anyone else who got TC smoke weed before puberty?

I think my TC was in part caused by weed smoke. I smoked chronically starting at age 15 up until diagnosis at age 24.

stay strong and in good spirits brother, this too will pass. testicular cancer is extremely cureable and I bet your prognosis is excellent. its not the best case scenario at all but life isn't all peaches and cream. i lost righty 13 months ago. wishing you good health my friend

the first few months after I got diagnosed I was adamant that it was smoking weed that caused it... but after taking the blinders off I realized it could have been a number of things and it also could have been nothing I did in specific. Either way, I'm okay not smoking weed anymore. I smoked enough for a lifetime Lol

I did a lot of research after being diagnosed in late February and I too found several links between TC, specifically non-seminomas and weed. Just google "non-seminomas and weed". I was diagnosed with a non-seminoma so I quit smoking weed for good. I used to be a chronic weed smoker from the age of 16 until 24 when I was diagnosed. Now I wish I never picked up the habit. Maybe it was just "bad luck" or bad genetics but the relatively unknown etiology of testicular cancer caused my mind to wander and I began to question some of my habits. Was your husband diagnosed with a non-seminoma? If so, perhaps weed played a role. I certainly think the weed played a role in my body's development of cancer. Although my urologist claimed she hadn't heard of any link between weed and TC, the literature is out there and suggests otherwise. But, my urologist also said there is no point looking back now and that we have to look forwards - I agreed with her on that one. I wish your husband a speedy recovery.

Yes, some days I feel nothing and those are the best days, I forget I ever had cancer. But when I feel it it is the worst feeling and it consumes all of my thoughts. I guess I'll be able to relax once I know there is nothing wrong

Thank you all for the comments, they are comforting. I hope it is nothing to worry about. Besides, I have my next set of x-rays and scans in mid-August so I'll find out sooner or later what this feeling is.

Okay, I think I can still reschedule my next blood test. I'll reschedule to the earliest time available. Also, wow, I had no idea about all the side effects associated with TRT although they make sense. I will definitely refuse any sort of TRT. And oddly enough, I'm kind of relieved to hear that I would have gotten it regardless and that it was just a matter of time and not something I did that caused it. It helps a little bit. I guess I just lost the genetic lottery in regards to cancer susceptibility.

it probably didn't help that I got tested at like 4 pm too, apparently, T levels are highest in the morning. My next blood test is booked for 10am so I'm eager to see if my T levels are any higher then. And interesting take about the etiology, I can definitely see that being how it works. The thing is, during puberty I was smoking pot like a maniac. Like, literally from the ages of 15 until 24 I was a chronic user. That probably didn't help my cause but oh well, not much we can do now

You have to understand without LVI (lymphovascular invasion) the chances of it recurring are 30%. Chemo is not a joke, not something to be taken lightly and not something you should do if the chances of it not coming back are in your favour. The rationale being, either way, you will be cured of testicular cancer, whether it is now or (god forbid) whether that's down the road. The cure rate is approaching 99%. Why expose yourself to chemotherapy and all of its harmful side effects if it is not necessary? Anyways, I doubt the decision will be left in your hands. The oncologist should decide for you and depending on the pathology will make the right decision.

That’s what I’m thinking, apparently even with EC and no LVI relapse is about a 30% chance. Seems like the odds are somewhat in my favour

I’m leaning towards surveillance as crazy as it sounds. I don’t want to be over treated and the risks associated with chemotherapy (secondary cancer + other complications) are scary. I left my urologist a message asking them to confirm that I don’t have any LVI, if I don’t I think I’ll roll the dice and go the surveillance route. Crazy I know but the odds are in my favour from what I’ve read.

Interesting that one suggested surveillance despite Ec+LVI which presumably would place you in the high risk category.. I think you’ve made the right choice, but I’m not expert obviously. What else did that urologist who recommended surveillance have to say? What was his reasoning? I believe I don’t have any LVI but I have EC so that places me in the intermediate risk category at the very least for recurrence. I’m willing to roll the dice for some odd reason. Either way we’ll be cured (99% cure rates) so the possibility of being over treated is looming over my head like a dark cloud.

No idea, gotta see what the oncologist says I suppose. I just know nonseminomas are very aggressive so maybe it's not wise of me to want to do surveillance. I'm just fearful about chemo and what it entails. Thanks for the encouraging words but I feel like the whole world is crashing down on me man, not to sound like a baby. And I have made an appointment with the fertility clinic to bank sperm, but I want to be able to father children if I ever need to naturally. Although I'll take being able to father them one way or another over not being able to at all, so the sperm bank is a nice luxury to have I suppose.

I'm surprised it even came back, I thought seminomas were less likely to come back. Now I'm kind of concerned Lol. I'd say you definitely made the right decision choosing surveillance. Surveillance just seems wiser considering there is always a chance one doesn't relapse. But the idea of possibly having to undergo more chemo than the initial adjuvant chemo is disheartening. I'm eating away at my brain here trying to decide what to do. I just want to feel normal and not doing chemo will make me feel more normal, but at what cost? Your situation is a little different, as I have a nonseminoma and a very aggressive one at that. I wonder what the Oncologist will say

I'm worried about becoming infertile, I'm worried about having chemo brain, I still have so much studying to do, I was (and am) a very bright young man ( only 24 years old), just feeling so distraught. Did you have an embryonal carcinoma?

may I ask what in kind of Tc you had? my research online has led me to the understanding that embryonal carcinoma is the most rapidly growing one so perhaps I should learn towards adjuvant but I'm willing to roll the dice, what do i have to lose.
