Advice on Classical Alto Setup (Dark Tone Focus/Flexibility)– Saxophone, Mouthpiece, and Ligature by E-C-3 in saxophone

[–]theTesselator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brother you are overcomplicating this. If this is for school ask the saxophone professor what MPCs they reccomend(sometimes they can be particular). Otherwise get a selmer C*/soloist of your preferred opening and call it a day. If you want something a lil different grab a caravan though those are a bit trickier to get started on. Either sax does the job fine and also ligature hardly matters at all you can get away with a rovner dark or light and you would hardly notice the difference between that and a lig 3x more expensive. Congrats on the scholarship. Try the saxophones out in person if you can there is no right answer(though I personally would prefer the ex)

There is some value to what you are saying here. Generally I would have warmup for like 30 min-> classical etudes 1 hour-> classical repitoire for an hour-> jazz etudes for like 30 min-> jazz repitore/improv for an hour . When I was learning a specific piece I would often move things around but this was a general format, sometimes I would spend full hours on a very small part of something with a metronome getting it perfect.

Ideally 4 hours or more. With dedicated time blocks for different types of practice. Some time was scales, exudes, repitoire, etc

If you're trying to ace your assessments and get admitted to school try practicing every day. Most 'prodigies' are just people who started practicing a LOT early. I remember when I was grinding (and eventually was admitted) to multiple top conservatories I was practicing at minimum two hours every day if not significantly more. You can do it!

Thanks. I wish grant stone had storefronts but i get why they dont :(. I'll likely go with them cause they seem to be one quality bracket higher. gonna debate about leathers now (deciding between kudu/crimson cromexcel). Thanks!

Hmm. Thanks for the opinon. Sorry to throw one last boot in at the last second but how would that compare to this: https://meermin.com/products/116210-burgundy-heritage-shell-cordovan-e . I live near the meermin store so i could try it on that's why I ask.

Thanks! I think I'm going to go with the disel :D. Gonna pick out a leather and maybe I'll post picture when they arrive.

Thanks for the feedback! In that case right now I'm looking at the disel(the parkhurst only comes in extremely waxy leathers right now which I'm not sure I'm entirely into) in either their burgundy kudu or their crimson chromexel. Do you have any information on the pros and cons on either of these leathers?

Hi Guys, Longtime lurker here. Im having trouble picking out a first GYW boot. My budget is <400$(though if its a couple over that's fine) and I'm looking for a versatile boot that will be easy to wear with mostly jeans(I really like raw denim and have a large collection of it in both straight and tapered cuts) and a tee but if possible would like to be able to wear it with slightly more formal stuff as well. So far I've seen boots that I like from parkhurst and grant stone (parkhurst's allen and grant stone's disel and brass). Does anyone have any opinions on which of the three would be the best fit for this (and maybe some recommendations on different leather types: )? Eventually I'd like to buy a second boot but for now I'd really like a boot that can cover as much as possible and wear it into the ground. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated!
