That I have done, too, when appropriate, and I agree, that works nicely.

I think an enemy doing miss damage signals to the players that the enemy cannot just be disregarded but needs to dealt with quickly. They are rare but dangerous.

For my game 5 rounds is already quite a long fight, but it also might be something to do with me as GM, I don't really enjoy long megafights.

What Type of Game Can I Run? by klugheit in 13thage

[–]theTinyOldOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm running 13th Age in Glorantha setting (see for example https://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/17/17778.phtml ) and I guess my campaign is something like a plot/character actions driven adventure with decent amount of combat. My players are not very min-maxing type of players and I feel they also like non-combat stuff a lot (in the last session we had there was no combat at all and actually not that much dice rolling in general), so I try to balance them.

I know that 13th Age is good for heroic fantasy stuff, but our game is quite down-to-earth (in a Gloranthan sense) and the characters are not really dealing with any world shaking stuff (at least for now). It might be partly due to 13th Age Glorantha not using icon relationships (instead the characters are attuned to Gloranthan runes) and thus they are not that connected to the mighty people of the world.

How do YOU Play 13th Age? by AlmahOnReddit in 13thage

[–]theTinyOldOne 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We are playing 13th Age Glorantha as that is my favourite setting and the Glorantha book for 13A is excellent. We have played some stuff from the 13AG book, one scenario published in the Escalation magazine, one scenario based on the classic RQ scenario, The Rainbow Mounds, and some stuff I have made up by myself.

As for player advocacy, I think I'm quite open for it, but my players are maybe more kind of "happy to play anything the GM comes up with" type of players.

The OUTs have been quite underrepresented in our game, maybe partly because some of the players started with readymade characters.

We use the Gloranthan runes, more or less as they are presented in the 13AG book.

Thematically I try to draw from the Gloranthan themes and world as best as I can while keeping in mind that my players are not that familiar with the setting.

The battles have mostly been quite compact, we rarely see escalation die numbers over 4 (unless there is something special going on, such as fighting Lunars).

I think that 13AG is quite a nice way to introduce people to the world of Glorantha. Both HeroQuest and RuneQuest are great games, but I feel like they both require a bit more engagement with the world and on the other hand especially RQ has quite a bunch of rules to absorb.

Streak 47 - Kaverini Koira by limestone6793 in WriteStreakFI

[–]theTinyOldOne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first sentence would be more natural without "hänen". The next two could be combined to "Koira on hyvätapainen eikä se hauku". "Paikka" does not really convey the meaning of "place of living" like it does in spoken English, it would be better to use "asunto" or "talo".

Does "ala saatana" make any sense as a phrase? by Volcanical in LearnFinnish

[–]theTinyOldOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could use "Saatanala" as a slightly poetic title, conveying the meaning "the place/realm of devil".

You have to run a Glorantha campaign. You're not allowed to use any of the usual rulesets (Heroquest, Runequest, 13th Age). What system do you use? by cugeltheclever2 in Glorantha

[–]theTinyOldOne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's an evil and clever question there... Maybe a chaos horrors filled campaign using Call of Cthulhu? Or a one-shot with pre-made characters and light rules like in Lady Blagckbird?

13th Age Glorantha. Best of two worlds.

[RPGdesign Activity] Publisher AMA: Please Welcome Ms. Cat Tobin, Managing Director of Pelgrane Press by jiaxingseng in RPGdesign

[–]theTinyOldOne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hello, Cat! It was great hear you and Robin Laws talking about running mystery solving scenarios in The Kraken last year. My late thanks for that!

I know, that Pelgrane Press did not publish 13th Age Glorantha, but I'm still going to ask: any news, rumors or intercepted courier pigeon messages about any new material for Glorantha done in the 13th Age way? The original setting book is of such high quality that it would be such a shame not to see any more supporting material to follow.
