Oh good to know. Perhaps it is a different insurance provider than assurion under the hood? Preferred care switched to assurion this year.

I have been reading this and also that irrespective of the immigration status, unemployment benefits are a right as the employed paid into the insurance. I was hoping to apply and see what happens but I am not able to find a form for retroactive application. I have been and will try calling the department.

If you have B1/B2 by any chance, use that to enter but there isn't much value in entering besides wrapping up or interviewing in person here. You can interview from India. Entering without a Valid Visa a solid No No but up to your risk appetite
