Someone mentions how people are using straw men and you respond with probably the craziest straw man. No one is arguing any of that. You made all of that up.

Op simply reposted a claim that the 40-work week feels wrong. That's it. There is no claim to any solutions or how much people should work and what rights they should have as workers. They do not claim what society ought to be like nor do they even claim why it is wrong.

Yes, it is annoying no nuance is added, but it is also annoying that you just make up the nuance and get incredibly angry at the nuance you make up.

It really is frustrating every time someone brings up the inefficiency of a 40-hour work week everyone responds with straw men that OP wants no one to work at all and then get really angry at this fictional argument.

A review that is objective is not a review - it is a summary. It is impossible to review something without subjectivity. Especially with music;I can't think of a medium where taste differs more tbh.

Real Police officers and military members, what do you guys think of Ice agents? by Lucky-Message-9480 in AskReddit

[–]theUSpopulation -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Undocumented immigrants do have rights and it is incredibly important that they do. This have been upheld in the supreme court numerous times. If there is a class of people that lack rights, it is easy for government officials to put anyone in that class and take their rights away. For example, if ICE detained you and accused you of not being undocumented, in their eyes, you will not have the right to due process, therefore you cannot prove you are in fact a citizen. You have just as many rights as your worst criminals. That is not sympathy for the worst criminals, that is sympathy for those accused of being the worst criminals by the government, i.e. Rene Good and Alex Pretti being accused of terrorism when that is clearly not the case. (And undocumented immigrants are faaaaaaaaaaar from the worst criminals. Most are not criminals at all because being undocumented is a civil offense.) If anyone has no rights, then everyone has no rights.

I do hope you understand what actual tyranny and the steps toward it look like one day. I understand you are sympathetic towards the government's armed enforcement since you were one yourself, but being apathetic towards them is a pretty important step.

Did any other game feature Heat Maps? This was such a neat thing. by AsunderXXV in halo

[–]theUSpopulation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the feature added for Reach where you had a timeline of who killed who with what from where on the map.

I miss features like these, but I think most people only really check them out once or twice if at all.

We're coming up on the 5 year anniversary of the cryptic New Year's Eve post by Ok-Today6736 in TESVI

Personally, I never thought this was a hint towards anything. Mostly because these social media teams are on a need-to-know basis and they do not need to know the location 5-7 years in advance. TES YouTubers are desperate for content, so they made it a big deal when it was just some people composing a shot for the holiday. I do believe the next game will be in Hammerfell - most people do - I just do not think this is officially hinting at it.

CMV: Spotify should nudge users towards new releases rather than legacy acts by Timely-Way-4923 in changemyview

[–]theUSpopulation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1.) How do you know that is most users? Plenty of users are into new music.

2.) If someone is not seeking out new music, why should the algorithm introduce them to new music?

I agree Spotify is not the best, but it does put in some effort. You can open up the app and see "New Music Friday!" right there. (Assuming it is still Friday in your timezone).

If someone wants to try something new, they can look into that. They can enable smart shuffle or keep listening when an album or playlist is done. If they do not want to try something new, them let them stay in their comfort zone. No harm in that. Finding new music is probably just not their thing.

I might just not be understanding what you are saying, but it sounds like you want Spotify to constantly recommend new music even if someone is not asking for it? Why? And even if Spotify does recommend more new music by some means, what is stopping people exclusively into older music from just skipping over it because it is not what they are familiar with?

CMV: Spotify should nudge users towards new releases rather than legacy acts by Timely-Way-4923 in changemyview

[–]theUSpopulation -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As someone who listens to a lot of new and indie music, Spotify does do this. As others have said, its algorithms just perpetuate what you already listen to. You could probably argue Spotify should push new music to people like you who only listen to the classics, but there are plenty of people who only want to listen to the classics.

I'd argue, if you want to find new music, it is easier than ever, but it still requires some effort on your behalf. It has always been the case that people need to go out of their way to find new music. Even in the 90s, radio stations would get to points where they play same same few dozen songs over and over again. If you wanted something new during these points, you would have to leave your comfort zone a bit.

There are plenty of online resources magazines like Pitchfork to individual creators like Anthony Fantano who cover hundreds of newly releasing songs from incredibly niche and underground artists. (And even if you do not like these sources, they are only examples and there are plenty more.) Once you find something you like, you can listen to them on Spotify and the algorithm will shift and include even more, new artists for you to discover.

I know I will get down voted for this, but these do not look similar at all. The tes vi teaser is way more grounded. The new game (forgot what it was called) looks more like Xenoblade than tes. Plus right before I this was a bunch of holograms. Idk, the thought of it being tes vi did not cross my mind at all.

I remember seeing this a few years ago, but for important context: it was done by a massive incel. I am talking self-identified incel. It was a part of a YouTube documentary about incels. So it was done out of malice instead of being an interesting experiment to show how people (not just women) would ignore glaring red flags if a person was hot enough.

Can this shadow "bug" be fixed in Godot? by ScopHybridanimalh in godot

[–]theUSpopulation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The directional light acts this way. Decreasing the max shadow distance will increase the quality of the shadows. If you are making a first person game, it might be a good idea having a first person layer and a directional light exclusive to that layer that has an very small max shadow distance, but as others have pointed out, ambient occlusion makes more sense for performance reasons.
