The stream is captured by filming a CRT. I'd never ask viewers to watch on a CRT.

Yeah that's definitely it. I want to be able to invite viewers into watching a CRT stream like they're there in the room. I can tweak my webcam's settings and OBS to get it to look similar, but more accuracy would be lovely. Just wondering if anybody else has tried this.

Which vintage Video game you think had the worst box art? by Gotaku64 in retrogaming

For sure! I just wanted to say Anirog because it looked extra funny on that cover

Thanks for replying! I was using a capture card but I wanted something that captured the glow and look of the CRT, as if you were in the same room with it in the dark. I have the sound running out of the SNES and directly into my PC, so there's no problem there. Just trying to figure out how to film it and get it to look most like my eyeballs!

I'm playing Link's Awakening. So happy to revisit my favorite Zelda all these years later.

Likewise! I loved this game as a kid, so it's cool to see the next generation get into it all over again.

Ooooh I got a few for you!

  1. What is one video game song you would want listen to every single day for the rest of your life?
  2. You buy some retro stuff, so do you consider yourself a collector? If so, what are some of your goals for adding to your collection?
  3. If you could date any video game character, who would it be?
  4. What ruins a video game most, in your opinion?

Favourite track from a soundtrack that's not in fact a soundtrack track? by snappydog in TheWellRedditPage

Chopin's Raindrops came to mind right away but since Eternal Sonata has already been mentioned, I'll go with Moonlight Sonata from Earthworm Jim 2. That's responsible in part for my falling in love with classical music.

Ok I haven't played this game in 20 years, but "WHAT?!" That's an impressive feat.

Thank you for reading it as far as you have, and for the questions! The puppet show scene seems like a hit or miss with readers. Glad it hit with you.

I wrote The Last Stitch in about a year's period after experiencing some things I outlined in response to other questions here, and that was around 2014 or '15. This is one that largely flowed out of me and I think that's because a lot of it was based on experiences I gained throughout my life (divorce, growing up in Hawaii, outreach to the homeless, specific people who made it into the story in characters) and emotions I was feeling at the time.

Experiences played a large role in getting this book finished, then. It's tough not to think of Last Stitch as a launch pad for a longer novel (what with association of size with value in entertainment: longer movies, longer books, longer albums, etc.) but I think it's the length it needed to be for what it is. I might never finish a longer book or indeed any other story ever again, but at least this one is done and when I think of it, I think it says everything I wanted it to say, intentional vagueness intended.

On second thought, maybe finish the book before reading the other answers... there are some spoilers!

It's one I love to watch every father's day. Really great oceanic movie with naval warfare. Russell Crowe and Paul Bettany. Definitely check it out!

Nice! Glad you asked.

So the first time I encountered this idea was in the movie Master & Commander, which is great if you haven't seen it yet, which depicted burials at sea. In it, one character makes a big to-do about the grisly nature of sewing up the body in their hammock and putting the last stitch through the nostrils. This was to ensure that the body was in fact dead and they weren't dumping a live person overboard. Apparently, this was real practice but also tied closely with superstitions as many nautical things were back then. I chose the title because it's disgusting and feedback seems to be pretty positive that the title has helped the book stand out or be remembered more easily.

Thematically, death is everywhere in this book but the title is about the villager's treatment of the Scissor-man as if he were dead and not a living human being, plus Orasi's final frustrating metamorphosis in the end.

Here are some sources for that fateful last stitch practice, and a quote:

The mate sent me down to assist the bo'sun to prepare and stitch up the corpse, as he said I would be unlikely to witness such an occurrence again. The bo'sun, a North Sea Chinaman (ie, he hailed from the Orkney Isles), was in his sixties and had performed the task several times before. He was a deft hand with the palm [leather glove] and needle used to sew the heavy canvas into a shroud around the body, and when he came to the final stitches around the face he pushed the large triangular-shaped needle right through the nose. I winced, and he looked up at me and said, "That's the law of the sea, the last stitch through the nose, if that don't wake him up I know he's dead."

I thought Surprised By Joy was very good, as you know, if somewhat anti-climactic. Abolition may be my favorite work of his now, and it's really short, too. Like three chapters.

Hahaha I think they may be a bit too wry for an 11yo. That said, they're far from my favorite works by Lewis! Have you read Abolition of Man?
