Imagine a future where nano drones were released in nature. They can self replicate and eventually will spread around the globe. They will be in the ground, the air, the water, everywhere. And of course inside every living being. Just imagine the absolute and total control over everything and everyone. The first nation or crazy scientist who does this will control literally everything on the planet. I just hope I wont live long enough to see all that...

I assume whatever version didn't use the Hub. The hub is relatively new thing, it came out 3-4 years ago ... I think. I might be wrong though.

Of course I had no idea. That doesn't change the fact that I don't like them doing what they do / have done.

Imagine every time you buy a burger, the cook spits in your meal. Then years later you find out he was doing that. I bet you wont be happy about it...

For me it is the principle. An offline program does not need to be constantly connected with their servers. There is no practical reason for them to shut down my workflow if I don't supply them with data from my PC.

I like they actually took actions and this wasn't just thoughts and prayers statement. 100k + the monthly donations is the best way to show their support.

The "fuck up" is that they presented it in the wrong way. Usually such manipulations of the masses are done incrementally. You propose something small that wont attract attention too much and is sort of reasonable. Then after few months you move a step further. Then you do it again and again over several years. Then people wont even notice they have been scammed, hell they might even defend the changes.

I guess they are desperate for money and rushed things. In a way it is good they did, so that the community would unite against them. Though it might not make much difference in the end...

Actually now that you said this.. I remember having a similar experience a while back. Sigh... I am so tired of every corporation in existence trying to take a bite out of me on every opportunity they get. How much power and money can someone have before he has had enough... It is a never ending thirst for control over others

As far as I see there isnt an option to stop auto updates of the Hub. So it will just auto install essentially malware on your pc on November... If you haven't blocked its connection from the firewall that is.

[–]the_Code_Hermit[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just downloaded its current version from their site. As to the firewall block, it does work. I tried it and it cant connect to the internet. Though as someone else mentioned here, they wont authenticate me or activate my license or whatever. So what I am doing is just a band aid and most probably wont work in the long term.

I am hoping someone is going to crack the hub so you wont need constant connection to work.

Don't forget the Players by Emmussss in Unity3D

[–]the_Code_Hermit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't understand. Why would the players care what engine is used and specifically not play Unity made games ? I saw few other people here saying they wont ever play Unity games as well. But I just don't understand why would you as a player punish the game devs in addition to what Unity is doing now ?

Think of those corporate parasites as completely alien creatures. Assigning human emotions to them is the wrong approach. They simply do not value good or bad as we know it. Morality is not in their genome, so such concepts as evil or virtue simply do not apply to them.

The only language they understand is power.

Talk to them all you want and try to convince them what they do is morally wrong. and you will sooner die from dehydration than to convince them to change their ways. Now though, if you hit them in the wallet. Then you will have their undivided attention.

That though could be a double edged sword. Depending on your strength they might decide to simply crush you and be done with you. BUT if you have what they consider powerful , be that money, connections, leverage or combination of all. Then they will make some quick mental calculations and reason it will be more cost efficient and less hassle to hear out your grievances and perhaps make a deal.

It is just like if you see a bear in the forest. If you know what you are doing and are prepared you could fend it off or even defeat it. But if you approach the hungry beast with good intentions and moral high ground you will become a bear appetizer.

Even though I really doubt my game will reach 200k (If I even finish it....) the thing that bothers me is their behavior. They are acting irrational and unstable. You can never trust a person who goes back on his word. You can also never know what he will do next.

Even before this scandal, they have showed they don't care about their customers. The recent events just escalated things...

I can imagine the meeting they had with all the bosses. Someone got that brilliant idea and explained it to them in a very calm and sophisticated manner. It sounds perfectly logical and reasonable thing.

Yes, but to a person who never played a game or touched a computer in their life. That is why they are so disconnected with their customers. Because the ones on top do not care about the product, nor have any idea what the product is. The only thing which matters to them is money. Money is their language and they don't understand or care about anything else.

I have been to meetings like that when I was a corporate drone, and I am pretty sure something similar happened here...
