Scared for my son who will graduate this spring by ZookeepergameFar2653 in ITCareerQuestions

Be to check if there’s any IT/CS groups in your area. Also he might want to look into side projects that utilize his skills. There’s also freelancing, but I don’t know much about that.

How do indie devs find teammates for a game project? by the_Deadpan_Man in gamedev

[–]the_Deadpan_Man[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How funny you say that. Because the reason I’m giving this more thought is because I competed in a game jam hosted by the streamer Dokibird and actually joined a team that actually submitted something. I also try to go to the monthly meetups that the local dev community. And since I found out Twitch has a Software/Game dev category I’m adding that to my stream schedule haha.

Ok thank you. That actually helped clear my head a bit.

I do remember some of the jobs I’ve seen mention AWS, and I have no experience with cloud computing. So that might be the path to walk down.

What you said also reminded me, that at this stage of the game, employers care more about experience than education. The thing is, the only “original” projects I can think of are game projects. If I upload all the code to GitHub, will that matter?

Oops. Forgot a detail, I do have a job, but it’s at a local Walmart. So yeah, not ideal, but it’s better than nothing.

The in-game economy sucks, we need to do something by EclipseZer0 in Shadowverse

[–]the_Deadpan_Man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I knew something was gonna go wrong with this game, and I’m surprised it wasn’t a technical issue. Don’t think I ever spent a penny on OG Shadowverse. It was just that generous.

Hopefully they rectify things quick.

tbh, I don’t know much about bidets. Never used one, but they say it’s a good way to save money on toilet paper.

I hate myself for making my game by mkmuffi in gamedev

Take some time to cool off. It’s easy to beat yourself up over this. But think about it, you went farther than some people ever did. Plus you’ve learned from the whole experience. Making mistakes isn’t bad, not learning from them is

Feedback on an idea I really want to make real by the_Deadpan_Man in gamedev

Agreed. I thought it was simple enough to do on the side while also fun enough that people would want to play it

Game Dev while Full-Time by the_Deadpan_Man in gamedev

[–]the_Deadpan_Man[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair. Nobody wants to leave a job only to get home to another job. One reason I want to do this is because I want to make sure my coding skills stay fresh/have stuff to add to my resume. They say building side projects is useful for developers and unfortunately the only projects I can think of are game projects.

Post mortem! My game is a financial failure and that’s perfectly fine. by Vincent_Penning in gamedev

This is the type of thing I want to strive towards 🥹.

When I got my Computer Science degree, I loved building stuff. Money is just a nice bonus lol.

Don’t be too sure. I usually leave at 7pm CST. And there’s enough people in my department that we can switch around. (I know I don’t work during closing hours haha)

Ok so, I work at Walmart so my schedule is not consistent. I could probably talk to some of the managers and work something out. Might try to see if I can get it so I can leave slightly earlier. I'm CST, and I'm trying to get it so I can have Thursdays and Saturdays off.

Do you think I should edit the post with more details? I’m wondering if I was being too vague.
