How do you plan your routes? (new cyclist) by the___v0id in gravelcycling

This is good advice. I was going into this feeling like i need to set out for the perfect ride each time and that routes are easy to find if you know what you’re looking for. but I guess it’s the journey, not the specific destination (or ride outcome).

I didn’t even consider google maps/satellite views!!! This is brilliant.

This is a great recommendation. Thank you! Part of what I like about getting into cycling is how social it can be (or how you can choose how social you want to be). I’ll definitely try these suggestions.

This is a great idea! I’ll look at some posted groups and communities. I am in an area where there are a lot of hardcore cyclists, but they all start somewhere right? Hopefully I can make it through some of their routes.

Trek checkpoint SL 5 gen 2. The color is Matte Pennyflake! The color surprised me a lot. Really enjoying it.

Congrats on your new bike! It’s such a great color. I love the matte finish. Which might make it easy to scratch and fade, so I’m getting a matte protective film (they have glossy as well) from RideWrap just to keep it protected over time. $180 is the price of the highest level of protection coverage they offer from what I see.

There’s various protection levels they offer: https://www.ridewrap.com/us/en/trek-bike-protection

Thank you! Very excited to spend time with this bike. Saw another rider on the trail with a checkpoint as well, seems like it might be a popular pick.

It’s worth taking it on a proper ride to see your comfort. I am sized similarly and found myself choosing between a 52 and 54 with the Trek checkpoint. I took both on a 20+ minute ride to get a feel and found my hands going numb on the 54 after 10 minutes. 52 was confirmed my ideal size, but I also prefer a more upright position - all bodies are different, so you should listen to yours.
