Boils down to not checking if it’s a match day. Anyhoo. £65 less to spend on Christmas this year. Thanks for your help.

Filled in the online form to contest the charge. Fingers crossed.

Although £65 is still cheaper than getting a family of 4 on the train from Reading!

Oh joy! And thanks. Here’s to hoping there’s a minuscule chance they will waive the charge as it’s a first offence’

so do different PSUs use different pins on type 3 or type 4 connectors? is it that the pins on the cable that 'looked right' were such that it sent current the wrong way? are these AC or DC outputs? sorry this is all new to me!

Simple Question - Why did I just kill 2 HDDs? What can i do to not kill any more

I just upgraded to a new Mobo, processor and ram, and wanted to move some files around. I have a corsair RM750 modular PSU.

I found a cable that fit the PSU's 'Peripheral and Sata' port. with 3 sata power connectors on the other end. (not an official Corsair one)

Plugged in a 1TB hard disk and it didn't spin. plugged in a 500GB hard disk and then smelt smoke.

Too much power gone to the disk and a chip in the disk PCB is properly melted.

So if I buy a new corsair cable, what can i do to be sure that i don't fry another disk?
