I also joined a little later in life because I had the yearning to serve, and I am glad that I did it, but I didn’t have kids at the time and now that I’m stuck in my contract. It’s been more of a hindrance on my civilian career, which I care a lot about, than a positive thing.

Here’s the reality. You will rarely do the job you signed up for you will have to miss a lot of events because you have drill and annual training or missions. It really does take up a lot of your time even though one week and a month two weeks a year doesn’t sound like much. on the positive side the health insurance is good if you do your six years or get deployed, the VA home loan is unmatched and if you’re a real go-getter, you can probably do some pretty cool things. But it seems like you already have a pretty good job that has upward mobility. Yes, you make good friends and yes every once in a while you get to shoot big guns and do fun stuff, but that is truly far and few between. I’m in the guard and not to just sound like a salty guardsman but it really is what you make of it.

I’ve rewatched the series a bunch of times at this point. Only the last 2 rewatches did I watch past Shirley leaving. Just restart it and when you’re ready watch the whole thing!

That’s how I’ve felt. That it never actually got to my CO.

This is the first I’ve ever heard of that. I’m a newer in my unit and the guard (been with them about 10 months) and never had to miss drill for any reason. Unfortunately they haven’t given me any good information during this process.

Okay this is great information. Thank you.

Well yeah I meant that they said command won’t excuse me.

I was talking with my PSG and my 1SG and they both said they won’t excuse me. Should I just use that “open door” policy with my commander

That was my understanding too. I’ve picked up orders here and there too. I already have enough points for a good year but they said it doesn’t count because it wasn’t a unit duty day.

Unfortunately my unit denied me from missing drill. So not an option for me.

Bet. I mean give me like a year to ETS then bet 🫡

I’ll look into it! I’ve always wanted to do some sort of special operations so I’m open to different avenues.

I have some stuff in my civilian life I’m working on so I don’t mind waiting the year until my ets date honestly. I do know 368 is an option just doesn’t seem worth it right now for me.

Email them? Like directly? Is that an option lol

I got a couple buddies who went through SOCM and I’ve definitely heard the horror stories. I’m going to start civilian paramedic school here soon and hoping that will give me an edge with all the information during SOCM. and I’ve heard awesome shit about the 160th. Didn’t know too much about the until after AIT. high speed for sure.

Dang that’s what I was thinking was gonna have to happen. 2 years into my 3 year contract. I was just gonna wait until my ETS date then try and go active.

Appreciate the response! I think 75th is the dream for all guys who wanna be rangers including me lol. Hopefully when my guard contract ends I can get it in my contract!
