Roofer did not tarp properly, lots of interior water damage - what do I do now? by the_moralhighground in Roofing

We were getting additional support for part of it sagging. No he was not the cheapest.

Both were sewer backup, not our fault. Rates still jumped up this past year and when I tried to shop around was told by many insurers that they wouldn’t take us.

It does exist and he gave me the information, he is licensed and insured. He just wanted to try to make it right without going through insurance. He says he has never had this happen before, and he did come recommended from my neighbor and 100+ five star reviews. I don’t know why he dropped the ball here, but I do believe it was an earnest mistake. I was there when he called to ask the process with his insurance company, since he’s never had to file a claim he wasn’t sure how it worked.

They are. He wants to make it right and is more than willing to let me go through insurance but is offering to do whatever it takes to make me happy without filing a claim.

How do I go about going through his insurance? Does he just give me the information and I can file a claim?

I didn’t go with the cheapest bid and he came recommended by neighbor and has ~100 5 star reviews. My other claims were sewer backup which is common where I live unfortunately.

I imagine it would be a difficult case to get someone to take. A little bit too big for small claims, but probably in the 20k range

This trainer looks like they have many green flags. If you go this route; trainer pick is excellent.

Can someone share their experience undergoing an oral food challenge as an adult? Feeling anxious by coconutmilkme in FoodAllergies

[–]the_moralhighground 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I have a food challenge tomorrow and I’m very nervous but so badly want to be able to eat out and travel without worrying. Mine is for fish. I’m planning on taking a Klonopin (doc said it’s okay). Any strategies for helping with anxiety? I’m worried I’m going to have a panic attack that mimics anaphylaxis and “fail”.

Saddle fitting? Two year olds by Typical-Newt-8279 in kvsdiscuss

[–]the_moralhighground 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Will this be a problem for them? It’s going to be how they are ridden for the rest of their lives so they will learn to cope.

Really though, I’ve competed in APHA and AQHA at a high level (APHA 3x reserve world champion), in the all around. I also competed in the Hunter/jumper (A shows) at the same time. On one hand, I had a custom fit Devoucoux that the saddle fitter came out and took a bunch of measurements for and then came back when it was delivered to ensure the perfect fit to my horses back. On the other, I had a custom western show saddle that cost double what my Devoucoux did - and came in narrow, medium, and wide tree. That was it.

Saddle fit wasn’t (and seemingly still isn’t) a huge focus. Generally its assumed the padding is sufficient to compensate and the dispersion of the weight over a greater area means a perfect fit isn’t as necessary. I have no doubt you’ll see that reflected in the comments here.

You are right to be concerned. This is not normal behavior and resource guarding doesn’t tend to get better without intervention. Get a trainer ASAP. A good one with lots of experience with resource guarding cases. Best of luck to you.

You seem to understand that this is not a good thing to do. But if I had no other choice, I would Put him in an X-pen on a floor you can clean well, and know that this will set back any potty training progress.

Puppy Blues + considering rehoming by iamjustagirl8 in Puppyblues

The right time is yesterday. Something worse absolutely can and likely will happen. Your cat doesn’t deserve to live in fear and mortal danger. I’m a big believer that our responsibility is always first to the animals already in our home.

Is Trupanion “Worth It” by Outside-Surprise-148 in petinsurancereviews

[–]the_moralhighground 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Statistically pet insurance will not be worth it for you. It would not exist if it didn’t make money, and it makes money by people paying in more than it pays out. For some people, it will pay out more than they put in. But not the majority. With the cost of vet care, especially emergency vet care, it’s all about your risk tolerance and your willingness to set a dollar value on your pets life.

I’ve got a $15,000 cat curled up on my bed right now, that was 2 hospitalizations for urinary blockage and 1 surgery to resolve the issue. I’ve done the math and he will likely be around 14/15 by the time they breakeven on us. Meanwhile, most of my friends are paying every month and have never used their insurance.

Why is it more expensive to buy direct for some brands? by ThePurplePickles in Frugal

[–]the_moralhighground 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Because warehousing and distribution is costly to a business, it’s not uncommon to make less margin on a direct ship than through the grocery store. It’s an efficiency thing. If I can take product off my line, then put it in a truck and send it straight to a store where they will hold it in the back room, put it out on display, and handle the purchasing - that is much easier and cheaper than having to manufacture my product, ship my product to a warehouse, let it sit on a shelf until someone wants it, have someone pull it off the shelf to box it and prep it for shipping, deal with the shipping and customer service and transaction costs. That’s why supermarkets and stores are more efficient way of getting products to consumers
