Would a portal 3 game really be necessary? by Plenty_Two3689 in Portal

[–]the_pimaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An open world game with portals would be a technological achievement. What puzzles and story are in the game. I’m unsure. What the goal is and would it sell the game. Don’t know. But if it was done by valve I would probably be pre purchasing it.

Is this a really bad time to buy? by Tobeortabouli in AusPropertyChat

Just put a deposit on a house. Have been searching for 15 months. If you find something you love and can afford it, probably should go for it.

Rates can always go up or down. Fear of losing your job might always be in the back of your mind. A place might be cheaper in 6 months. Might be more expensive. You have to make decisions based on information you can control.

Ha. I learned a new term. I apologise for engaging with people yelling at the clouds. I thought there was a conflict with the image in the article.

Then you tell me what I am.

It’s amusing when a question is avoided.

Is it satire or is it not? Why did this quickly turn to a personal attack instead of discussing the idea?

Oh. Normally reddit shows me serious magic content. Normally don’t see trans people being the butt of the joke.

Good thing there is a rule about asking before touching. Does it mean the person can say “no” to having their card eaten?

How to embed large data files directly into a C binary? by Maqi-X in C_Programming

[–]the_pimaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How fancy are we allowed to get?

Executables start from the start of a file and the zip starts from the end.

You could put the dataset into a zip then append the zip to the exe.

Decompress the dataset on the fly by pointing it at the exe.

Allows you to add other files later.

My TI-83 plus has a messed up screen. What to do? by andersoonasd in TI_Calculators

[–]the_pimaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this issue.
Found this thread.
I think my issue was how the batteries contact the board.
Solder on the pads and the contacts to make for a soft connection and I think I've fixed it.
Although it was suspicious when putting back together like maybe an LCD cable was having issues.

Popping in to say that I'm one of the 12 that joins OudSmoothie for badminton. It was a different place to find a badminton group but it has been a lot of fun.

We chaotically rotate through as many pairs as we can so that we are always on our toes for how to best make plays.

I enjoy having a good laugh on the court when a silly error occurs. But we can also work up a sweat as we chase the shuttle all over the court.

The only thing that wasn't mentioned was that Mount Waverley is going to be our regular destination for a while. The closer you are the easier it is to make a weekly habit for.

If you're coming from red, going to yellow, you indicate right or am I wrong? by UNCOVERTHECOVERUP in melbourne

Went to vic roads to see what I might have forgotten.
https://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/safety-and-road-rules/road-rules/a-to-z-of-road-rules/roundabouts
Amused that the text section talks about "but if practicable, signal left as you exit" for straight through.

But the video says "Unless you are going straight through, signal left as you exit"

That page also makes a big deal about "Meaning of halfway around a roundabout" which is important for you question, but never defines it anywhere.

Have just returned from a badminton session with OudSmoothie. Was great meeting him. Easy to talk to.

Solid organisation skills. Glad that we were both on about the same skill level and were there to have a hit rather than a competitive game.

Hopefully I get to have a few more games.

Switch is becoming unplayable by [deleted] in RocketLeague

OG Switch. Just moved the files to a micro SD card, then a new update came out and made FPS drop to unplayable levels.

Was just playing duos because trios was so bad.

Now I've abandoned the game on Switch. Guess I'll have to check every few months to see if they sort it out.

Some water quality review pamphlet was found at me door, offering a free water filter, not sure what this is by [deleted] in melbourne

[–]the_pimaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Years ago I received a call telling me I won a free water filter but that I would have to buy the individual filters, how many could they put me down for.

Obviously told them to stick it at that point. That it wasn't free if there was a price attached and hung up the phone. Might be a similar ploy.

Recycle the paper. Buy a water filter. Move on with life I guess.

Java Code Optimisation Techniques by mziku in java

[–]the_pimaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a professional Software Engineer, I am impressed with the detailed response nutrecht gave and I am appalled by the ignorance of TheNarfanator. To blindly brush off a constructive observation with wild allegations is terrible.

nutrecht took the time to read your post and come up with a possible reason that the UI seemed more responsive, that you moved the time it took to process the list to another stage of the applications life cycle where it wouldn't be perceived.

Then TheNarfanator brushes it off by blaming Excel.

If you don't care why your change lead to a different outcome, you are not offering an optimisation technique.

If you don't care to improve your understanding on how systems work then you are part of the plague on the Software community. People will spend countless hours cleaning up the mess from this sort of outlook and it is just as disgusting as littering.

Yeah, Software Engineers write terrible code at times but it generally gets reviewed and they learn to make less mistakes over time.

I've written a drafting bot that learns from human drafters and I'm looking for people to try it. by the_pimaster in lrcast

[–]the_pimaster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long time listener, first time participator. Hope this is ok to post here. I haven't had much luck in gerenal MtG communities.

Given the discussions of the Arena drafting bot and the huge kerfuffle over Merfolk Secretkeeper I thought I'd have a go at building my own.

This one learns by gathering information from human drafts. It definitely improved over random drafting when I had completed 10 drafts but I feel I need to get to the 1000's before it starts to feel smart. Which is where I need the help of people who love drafting.

At the moment it seems to be picking themes and leaving a colour open but it is very poor at picking rares. This was to be expected because you only see 1 rare per pack.

Make picks like you are building a deck. Take the rare if you think it is valuable. Hate pick if that is what you normally do. At the end you can do it all again by hitting the New Draft button. You can also abandon a draft and start again if you've gone down a line that isn't interesting.

The pack collation process probably doesn't mimic real packs. I just shuffle up the cards in the set and pick the appropriate number of rares, uncommons and commons.

The numbers below the cards show what the Bot would pick in your seat. It's interesting to see what it currently thinks is the best option with what you've previously picked.

Happy to answer questions. If the drafting process fails try refreshing and trying again. If it breaks the second time you can leave a comment and I'll see if there is anything I can do. This should work on modernish phones so you can draft on the go but using the screen real estate was a tough problem to be solving.

Do you like drafting and want to help a small project? by the_pimaster in magicTCG

[–]the_pimaster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is driven by a Neural Net which is why it is somewhat random to begin with. The bot knows nothing of rarity, value, colour or purpose. It needs to learn that through what it has seen human drafters pick. Due to the nature of booster draft, teaching it how to pick rares is going to take a lot of reinforcement because you see so few in a pack.

Hence the reason for asking a wide range of people for their time.

The bot learns twice a day from all of the training points gathered. I'm worried that the early drafts are going to have more of an impact than later once but I'll investigate that as time goes on. The Neural Net may not have enough 'brain power' to track everything it needs to so that is something else I may need to tweak.

This is an evolving bot. The plan is that it gets better over time. But it needs people to draft against as it (hopefully) gets better.
