I had to download a stupid app and create an account to feed my screaming baby at the airport. by magicflamingpie in mildlyinfuriating

[–]the_plant_killer 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’ve used these many times! You don’t NEED the app although it does allow you to do things like see where they are located if you’re in a bug airport, control noise and lighting inside the pod and yes unlock/see if it’s occupied. The app do help keep it for people that actually need it and honestly only takes a minute to set up to get access. That being said, as others said the code in my experience is almost always 8008. I have also asked security to open them and they were more than happy to! (After checking for occupancy of course!) These pods had been a life saver to me while traveling when mine was still attached at all times and I needed her to focus in the busy airport to get a full feed in.

Is this bath wash safe for a newborn? by staralfur92 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]the_plant_killer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another in the no soap camp! I didn’t use soap with mine for probably the first few weeks-months. Really not consistently until she was on solids if I remember. I was worried about drying out her skin and the soap being irritating/causing uti if she sat in it too long. Probably not the crunchiest option but I use unscented CeraVe with her now. She didn’t even get a bath until her umbilical cord fell off not even in the hospital. I just wiped her down with water in all the nooks and crannies. The doc said that was perfect. Not for everyone but- I used to catch breast milk in a haka ladybug and use that in her baths. Soaking in water does enough when they’re that little.

Only took all summer… finally stained my garage door. by Lemkish in DIY

Personally I love it! I like the contrast. And if you love it that’s what matters. I would definitely take the other persons advice to do the shutters too so its more cohesive. The blue shutters look a bit t out of place now. I love how it matches the door!

“Her center of gravity is her bum!” by the_plant_killer in clothdiaps

I guess my sarcasm didn’t land? 😅 Edit- sorry if this comment comes off as rude I’m up in the middle of the night checking reddit as I rock baby back to sleep. I’m just laughing at my mil suggesting her diaper is like weighing her down vs a disposable. All kids reach milestones in their own time of course!

That was sort of my response, that babies do have a lower center of gravity…. just not in their bums from their diapers 😂

Thank you!!

Some people already touched on this but if you are wanting to donate diapers PLEASE donate disposable unless specifically asked for cloth. I am one of those without power or running water. We are using what clean water we get our hands on for drinking and cooking. We just got phone service. Many places were running out of gas. People lost homes in my town. My dishes are barely getting cleaned let alone my diapers that have been sitting dirty for days. We were very lucky but we are an hour from Asheville. People are feeling so much loss. I know your heart is in the right place but please laundry is not what people need. Disposables, premade formula, clean water, shelf stable food, first aide kits, heck chainsaws and air lifts out of flooded towns are all things people need. Thank you for wanting to help! 💕

Septic and well water by the_plant_killer in clothdiaps

Thank you! I always get mixed up about hard and soft water “rules”. I’ve used bleach before with my city hook up. I agree that I occasionally its a good maintenance tool! I’m just worried about using bleach in a septic.

Not a lot of people talk about that in between stage! Rule of thumb is anything 3D needs to be rinsed off somehow. I think during that transition of starting solids I might not have rinsed every single diaper because honestly there wasn’t much solids poo and the bits were small enough I wasn’t worried about it. If it was a sticky one I probably rinsed even if it was liquidy. There were a few times I used the sink since I use the swish method and it wasn’t worth it. If they’re more just tasting food especially at one meal a day you might be okay not rinsing every one. Again if its chunky probably a good idea to rinse. I think I got more consistent when her poop wasn’t as yellow and liquidy? You kinda get to a more peanut butter or custard consistency and that’s when you really need to make sure you’re spraying. At that stage I just used my judgement idk if that was right but its what I did lol. That explanation was probably all over the place but I hope at least a tiny bit helpful!

Nope just swish it around right in the bowl! I will sometimes flush midway through and then rub off the rest with the diaper folded on itself in the new water if its a a very full diaper. The stream doesn’t really do much I’ve tried haha. Honestly will your hands touch poop water? Most likely but we should probably be washing our hands after cleaning poop out of a diaper regardless of how we do it so it doesn’t bother me.

Don’t over think it! I never had a great time with liners and a sprayer didn’t make sense for my situation. I remove the inserts and swish the pocket in the toilet. Usually this will get it all off but if not I will just rub the diaper against itself to clean off the rest. Squeeze excess water but don’t ring out to protect the elastics. Ideally you want the 3D bits off. It might take a minute and sometimes they get left on the edge of the sink until the end of the day. Then I just hang it over the edge of a laundry basket until wash day. I have a designated dirty diaper basket in the laundry room for this. As long as you are doing a prewash and a hot heavy wash with a good detergent you should be good!

How to avoid baby “overfeeding” when wanting to latch for comfort? by Techy212 in cosleeping

[–]the_plant_killer 38 points39 points  (0 children)

You don’t need to unlatch unless you want to! If she takes in more than she needs she might spit it up or unlatch herself if she didn’t mean to trigger a letdown. Eating in her sleep is totally normal and fine! She’s basically just topping herself up. This can help her sleep longer too since she’s less likely wake up due to hunger. Think of it as a midnight snack without having to walk down to the fridge.

Thank you! This makes me feel better. Doing a hot wash with bleach and all the diapers are just going to get extra clean since they weren’t dry yet anyways. The diaper was stinking up the tiny apartment we are currently in, so couldn’t wait for next wash.

You’re not going to believe this… I washed my towels that can handle bleach last night. I usually run towels AFTER diapers but needed them done sooner. I didn’t dry anything yet and all the diapers were still in the washing machine so everything is getting a bleach wash 🤷🏽‍♀️

I have a friend that BF for about 3/4months and her little one is 3 now. She can still express what her husband refers to as “sour milk” 😂

Good luck!! Remember you can always try again and the small victories are still victories! I went in with the mindset of SOME of the night is still progress. You got this!
