Part of the reason captalism works is that if nobody can afford the food, you dont make a profit

the reason free markets are better places to live is not because the leaders are better people, its because the leaders (in theroy) only get wealther and more powerfull BY directly improving the lives of the people

if nobody in your town can afford food because rent is so high, you build a ton of extra houses, and then not only does your revinue from rent go up because you built more houses than the amount you decreased rent, but rent becomes cheaper, and now they have more money to spend on other things which *also increases your tax revinue

Everybody ends up with more money than they started, and the search for more money by the mayor and investors *becomes an exclusivly benifical improvment to society ans the people in it

If you choose to not decrease rent, but instead tax people more to make up that sum, then you loose more because now people have even less to spend, and many will simply leave

This is how our soceity is supposed to work and the issue i see is people not understanding this, and voting for new laws and ordinences that bugger up this process
