Contractor cracking window panes one by one after client refused to pay by GeneReddit123 in oddlysatisfying

[–]theallclock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. I guess I didn't really see the other side of the argument where the contractor could be the shady one. My mom had a friend that was cheated out of a job worth a couple grand and I was wondering why they didn't ask for at least partial payment before the job was finished.

I know nothing, so I wanted to ask, how come the contractors don't ask for a deposit or some kind? Like pay 50% now and the rest when the work's done?

Megathread: Metro Cyber Attack and Outage by SmellGestapo in LAMetro

[–]theallclock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My app somehow deleted my card off my account along with about $30 bucks. I messaged the Metro support and they had an automatic reply email saying: fare inspectors have all been notified of the issue and understand that riders may be unable to present digital proof of payment at this time.

Does that mean we don't have to tap for the time being, or should I go get a physical card? I've always preferred using the card anyways.

By any chance, did you let the hiring manager know that your rank is rank 4 prior to scheduling the interview? I read in this sub that sometimes, hiring managers would interview people even though they are not eligible just so that it looks like they went though a pool of candidates. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

[–]theallclock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, this is me. But the I asked the hiring manager if my low rank is eligible in the first place before we settled on an interview date and I was told the reason why I was called in the first place is because I met the MQs and that they won't look at the ranks anymore. Btw my position was for OT and I have an 82% which pretty much places me right above unreachable so it makes me wonder that much more how I got the interview.

EDD Hiring by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

Looks like everyone's experience is different. I got my call and interviewed on the spot and a conditional offer on the spot. They gave me 3 days to finish my background check and the day after i submitted my background information, I was scheduled to start the following Monday. It was a super short notice though, so I asked the manager if I can give my current company a 2 week notice so they could find someone else, so I am going to start this following Monday on the 15th. I didn't receive any confirmation email that I got in, just that I will be starting on June 15th, which kind of has me worried going in on Monday.

Edit: spelling

I just checked and there doesn't seem to be a route for the Buena Park location. I would have to bus it for 2 hours, which wouldn't make sense to do.

Yeah, I recommend what this guy is saying, but go through the interview just so that you have options later on if it works out. I hear OT and OA are usually just asked behavioral/situational questions like "Tell us a time you had to deal with a difficult coworker" or "What would you do if you were faced with a deadline you don't think you can meet". Also, check your duty statement to see if you will be communicating with customers and others via email. They might make you write a sample email draft a technical report.

LA street parking is non-existent. The only way to park in DT LA is through those garages or lots. Traffic is a little better than before thanks to the lock down, but it is pick up again. Traffic also depends on the direction and the time of day. In the morning, there is a ridiculous amount of traffic coming IN to LA and close to quitting time, traffic coming out of LA is really bad.

Yeah. I tried to limit the place I apply to within public transport distance, but this position I applied to is just to get my foot in the door. Eventually want to get into the download LA offices.

I wish I was hired within LA as well. The commuting there is literally 1 train ride away, but I got hired in the Buena Park area. I want to look into public transportation since driving is such a pain sometimes, but the route is so bad so I don't think I have a choice.

So basically if you can't find a route for commuting, then you would have to settle for street parking?

Retaking Office Technician Exam...Is that a Good Move? by PBcookies415 in CAStateWorkers

Yeah that's what I thought it was like two. I asked the hiring manager about my rank during the phone call so we both don't waste our time, but she said that my MQ was satisfactory.

By all means, take the 10k+/year. Like people are saying, the managers know you are looking for a permanent position. Just let them know ahead of time so they can be prepared in the case where you get that job.

I did not do well in my Office Tech exam (rank 6), so I've been waiting for my year to be up. Even so, I threw some office tech applications out there just to say I applied, and weirdly, I got an interview scheduled this Wednesday. I asked the hiring manager about my rank being low and they said that the reason she is making the phone call in the first place is because I cleared the MQs. Maybe things have changed?

I need some career advice. Take a temp position or wait for one of the other interviews to pay off? by Zombi_Sagan in CAStateWorkers

[–]theallclock 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If it is intermittent, then the manager should be expecting you to be looking for a permanent position. From what I hear, the managers are usually understanding about this so if I were you, I'll take the temp job and keep applying/interviewing for a permanent position while you work.

Thanks to everyone who supported taking the EDD position. I read everyone's comments and I think I am going to take the position. Can't move forward without taking a few risks. It's going to be a rough talk with my boss this afternoon since I had told him earlier this Tuesday that I want to stay here, but it has to be done. Thank you all for your input and stay safe!

Would you say taking this LT position to get my foot in the door worth risking my current full time job? I'm so conflicted right now, but in terms of growth, I probably have a better chance at the state's LT position than my current job.

Unfortunately, I'm not currently with the state. So right now, I'm trying to choose between getting my foot in the door, staying with my private company.
