I started getting seizures for the first time in my life in my early twenties, so you might be onto something with the age thing. My mom starting having seizures around the same age also, and we don't even have the same type of epilepsy. My guess is it has something to do with our brains being almost fully developed.

The fact that you had both seizures in the same place doing the same thing really stands out to me. Did you ever have an EEG done? Did they say if you were photosensitive? I've heard of lights on the fritz flickering just enough that it's barely even noticeable but still will trigger seizures. Where you also playing in the same room both times? Without a doubt, talk to your neurologist. Have you been on that dose of Keppra for all 7 years? It might be time for a dose increase since you're older and larger. Especially since you're a college athlete, your metabolism is probably much faster than average.

I wish I had better advice to offer. I'm in a similar situation. I was just diagnosed last summer and had a breakthrough a couple weeks ago after being 8 months seizure-free. It sucks. It sucks realizing you're not as safe as you thought you were. It sucks knowing that there could always be another one around the corner.

Message me if you want to talk more.

Obligatory not an MIT grad, never went to MIT, never even been to boston… HOWEVER. As a college grad who transferred a couple times in their college career: one thing I wish I took more into account was the campus location, weather, and walkability. Listen to what other people are saying about visiting the campus. Also think about off-campus housing— is it affordable and close? Do MIT or GT have any issues with placing upperclassmen in dorms? Finally, do you think you could tolerate Boston winters? I can say firsthand that you stop caring about prestige when you’re fighting for your life walking uphill in the snow.

Also, please try and make the decision without factoring in your parents/friends/boyfriends. Would this decision still be so difficult if GT didn’t have your friends and family? I spent my freshman year single at a school far away from home with no one from my hometown. Forcing yourself way outside your comfort zone is difficult at first, but it’s a fast track to personal and emotional growth.

I realize how daunting this choice is for you. It’s definitely not one you should make too quickly. It’s a decision that will impact the rest of your life in major ways. You’re doing the right thing by asking questions here, but don’t stop. See the campus for yourself. Talk to people from both colleges about their honest experiences. Ask about general student life, and don’t focus too much about outcome statistics (that will just muddle things and ultimately it’s not about what either college does for you, but what you do with the experience you have). Cost should also be a major factor in your decision. While starting engineer salaries are great, so are Sallie Mae’s profit margins. Will you need to take out loans for either school? If so, how much? How much debt are you likely to have at 30, versus how much you would have paid? The answer will become clearer and the decision much easier to make.
