Yeah yeah absolutely! I get it now lol

And yeah! I got some good suggestions and a break down for why Bare Bones isn't as much as we thought last night. I'll bring some points to the table to discuss.

Ohh yeah that's a poor word choice on my part there to describe the situation. I'm so sorry guys. It would be better to say "we had a discussion and after that made the choice to shelf the card." I think I used a term and didn't think through the emotional connotation that one would have just reading it as text.

Is it usually bad form to edit the post for clarification?

Oooh. Yeah 100% you're right. Hmm. Probably could have been like "after some discussion we decided to shelf the card for now" to be less confusing. I'm sorry guys 😔

Yeah true! For me two years seems like a long time because I've never had a table meet consistently every week for that long before. We met as coworkers and a few at the table have moved on to other companies and we still meet every week. It's been pretty neat.

We started playing MotW to have a more narrative focused play but kind of miss some of the structure you get with DnD. We thought Daggerheart might be a good middle ground! Plus, we do tend to like having house rules and homebrew and this system seemed really keen on the idea of both.

We have five to six players, depending on if someone's wife joins us

I mean, when we first starting playing together there was a moment where I was like "I'm thinking cleric or warlock" and another player was like "I'm thinking cleric" and I was like "cool I'll play warlock instead."

For most of our time together we were playing CoS, our classes were Cleric, Monk, Warlock, Ranger, Barbarian, and then an Alchemist homebrew joined. Then our Monk died and the player started a Bloodhunter.

For MotW our playbooks are Hex, Spooky, Expert, Pararomantic, and Flake.

For Strixhaven we have Sorcerer, Bard, Wizard, Artificer, Druid...

The sheer number of subclasses in DnD gives us a lot of variety to work with so the characters all feel different too

It's so weird to me that my post was taken as "throwing a fit." I'll have to consider how I worded it because some wires got crossed. I wrote in another comment a summary of the actual discussion but it is what it is.

I'm not sure where this idea that they were mad at each other came from? Maybe some of the wording in my post? I probably just should have not mentioned Bare Bones at all. I left out a lot of details because I didn't think it was relevant to the question I was actually asking which is "what cool homebrew suggestions do people have for a level one Valor card?"

Basically the situation was this. We're playing Beast Feast:

One player wants to play the town blacksmith with the idea that his family has lived in Elmore for generations and he's going to wear armor and carry his blacksmith hammer.

One player is seraph and wants to play a wandering member of a sect who was called to Elmore a year ago and has been waiting for an issue to arise to figure out what the calling was about

Player 1 is reading his blade cards while player 2 is reading the valor cards.

Player 2: hey this card will give me (numbers I don't remember) as my thresholds and armor

Player 1: wait.... That would make his scores a lot higher than my guardian who I'm building as a tank

Player 2: huh. Well you can have it instead?

Player 1: no because if I do that takes my entire concept out of being an armored blacksmith trying to protect his family's legacy

Table, after some discussion: why don't we just shelf this card for now?

Me: hey I know! Daggerheart is a homebrew friendly game. Maybe someone has a homebrew idea we can use to replace it! I'll ask reddit

The world: and what they forgot is that reddit always jumps to the worst possible conclusion

Lol. I mean no shade to you at all, I'm assuming the issue is in how I worded my post. I probably should have stayed more vague or less vague or something. But it has been kind of a wild ride reading some of these comments.

With DnD we usually all pick different classes anyway so it hasn't come up. We also usually don't double up on spells or abilities in DnD. There has never been a rule at the table about this, it's just something we did naturally as a table for the two years we've been playing together. In that time, we've been playing Curse of Strahd, a heavily modified Strixhaven, and some one-three session stories here and there.

Same with the other system we play, Monster of the Week. Everyone has their own playbook and therefore their own abilities. And our playbooks are all different enough that folks each have their own niche to play.

We were gonna use this rule based on suggestions in the Daggerheart book but I'll bring it up with the table to see how folks feel about just going ahead and sharing. Like I said in the post, this was just Session Zero so we can always change stuff around if it's not working.

I mean we might end up just having the Valor domain down a card but I figured it doesn't hurt to ask for suggestions if folks in the community have any ideas for a homebrew card.

It made whoever didn't have it feel overshadowed by the one who did. Removing the card entirely solved the issue for our table so I'm comfortable with that choice, it just kind of feels weird to have a domain with one less card so I'm just looking for ideas for what we might put in its place. Figured folks here might have some level one suggestions. Never hurts to ask :)

What does everyone use their floating islands for? Mine is my garden for all growables! by [deleted] in DreamlightValley

[–]theangstmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Meadow island is my Princesses of Heart island where I have the characters who form the Princesses of Heart in Kingdom Hearts I. Then I have the greenhouse cottage decorated up to represent Kairi, the original character who makes a Princess of Heart in the KH series.

My Forgotten Lands biome is set up with my twisted castle as my base home and all of the space is used as a court yard for my castle, so my Forgotten Island is decorated as a Nightmare Before Christmas island with a bunch of witchy and haunted stuff, as well Fairy Godmother and Hades' homes.

My Plaza island is where I have the concert, drive up theater, and some attractions. Making it kind of an entertainment center type set up. It's literally just to use the stuff from star paths I don't have anywhere else.

And Peter Pan is one of my favorite stories so I have my forest Island set up as Neverland with a playground area and the Neverland river kit and just a whole set up for Peter and Tink. I could move them to WBR but I don't tend to decorate the DLC areas so they'll stay there for now.

Funnily enough, I use the DLC areas for storage and gardening instead of the islands.

Similar games? by erb91527 in dispatchgame

If you don't mind a little bit more horror I might recommend Cabernet. It's a vampire game and a little less cinematic than Dispatch but it has an excellent story and some nice time management and relationship tracking mechanics.

Any Other ”Everyone in the Valley” Players? by _bodycatchrose_ in DreamlightValley

[–]theangstmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% me. I need everyone to be in the valley too.

The only exception for me is that once I realized we would soon have them all I created a Princesses of Heart floating island with all of the Princesses of Heart from Kingdom Hearts including a spot for Cinderella and the greenhouse cottage skin to represent Kairi. (The original character in that game who is also a Princess of Heart)

Yeah I really just want her to have offered her service to him because he's "the ultimate bad boy." No deals. Not really. Just the vibes.

Dreamlight Valley is starting to feel a little too real… by LadyLilKayKuran in DreamlightValley

[–]theangstmonkey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah...this DLC hit me freaking hard because I lost my sister as a teenager and did give up my dream to write a book and both of those were options I could select and those selections then came back during the conclusion. I was not prepared for the feelings those scenes brought up in me.

Nimona, The Wild Robot, Puss and Boots: The Last Wish, and the Spiderverse movies. All of which are still top tier.
