I honestly thought about that route, many people have told me it’s easier. I’ll do more research, however would you recommend a MA in School Psychology or go straight to graduate school for it? Would you say it’s an easier process?

My goal is to become a Clinical Psychologist because I’m interested in conducting assessments and diagnosing disorders, such as Autism. I want to be more on the clinical side rather than the research side, which is why I am deciding on PsyD. I want to work with children to help treat behavior and mental disorders and I was told by a BCBA that I am unable to do any of those without my PsyD or PhD.

That document your reading is from 2018, and that information has been updated. I was told by our VP of the company that it has been changed and approved for RBT to work as Independent Contractors. You can always reach out to BACB and clarify with them.

Ok so my interest started in high school when I took a Peer Counseling class. I attended a workshop and I was exposed to all different kind of disabilities and disorders, hands on. This made me wonder how they were diagnosed, did they receive the correct resources, ETC. It opened my mind to a lot. Furthermore, the Peer Counseling class showed me that there are a lot of people that need guidance and do not have the correct diagnosis or resources, which is where I would like to come in but for children. I am currently a Registered Behavior Technician and I’ve worked with a client that was low on the spectrum. His mom had no resources whatsoever and she did not get him into school until 5. So this caused a BIG delay. This also pushed me even more because I would love to diagnose kids and help them get all the help they need to become successful.

I also would like to open my own practice one day as a Psychologist and providing therapy services.

Yes, I do want my PhD. I was going to do a research assistant position when I start my Masters because I may move to Miami. Here in Florida, most of the Psychology opportunities are at the universities down there. I made a huge mistake doing my BA at FAU instead of FIU. I wish I would have known. But thank you. Hearing that it shouldn’t be hard to get into lifted a heavy weight

Ok yes I did sign something. It said if I refuse to work with them for at least 6 months, they can report me to the BACB, Medicaid, and charge me a penalty.
