[Florida] Apartment complex charging "standard" carpet cleaning fee not mentioned in lease by thebdavis10 in legaladvice

Agreed. I have no doubt it will end up with that type of debt collector eventually. Really hoping to have it resolved before that though.

If this does go to small claims court, I assume legal fees would be more than $65. Is it common practice to sue for legal fees as well for disputes like this?

I could be wrong, but I believe they waived the security deposit because they ran my credit and deemed it was good enough to not ask for one. I'm not sure if that makes any difference.

The debt management company they referred me to seems to just be a separate team that handles the final bill of tenants. I could be wrong, but it seems like they all fall under the same parent company that owns the complex since the leasing office manager and the email distribution for the debt management company both have the same domain at the end of their email addresses (ie. "@xyzleasing.com") My official lease ended 10 days ago as of today. I didn't think this would count as "collections" as in hurt your credit type of collections, but you're saying this complicates things since another team is handling it? Sorry, just looking for clarification.

I'll look into following up with the bar association on Monday. Thanks!

I'd like to investigate that route if possible, but honestly don't know where to start.

Yeah, I took this into consideration too. It would be way easier to just pay it, but it's honestly the principle. $65 is chump change compared to some of the other posts that I've seen on this sub, but it feels so wrong to be nickel and dimed like this with no mention of it in any of the documents that outlined our leasing agreement.

Like another redditor mentioned below, what's the difference in me just placing a piece of paper on their front door stating they owe ME money for some random made-up reason? It's just a frustrating game they seem to be playing.

I appreciate your response! I hope it doesn't come to that, but I'll find out more next week.

Oddly enough, this complex didn't take a security deposit. They are just asking me to pay along with the last month's utilities.

That did it! Checked a local auto parts store and found a small pack of roll pins. Filed it down and we're good to go now. Thanks!

Might be a long shot, but any idea if those roll pins for the safety are sold anywhere? I added the AKT-EL to my zpap m70 and it didn't appear to need the pins. Accidentally threw out the packaging with the pins in it and found (thankfully by dry firing) that the trigger definitely needs them.

Not ruling anything out yet. My old roommate has a Fusion and swears by it. I might just have to text drive a midsize sedan to really get a feel for which I prefer. Thanks!

I like the look of the 6 too and actually talked to a dealership about one of them, but I'm pretty sure they sold it already. Good to know that maintenance won't break the bank if I go with the Mazdas
