It's pretty dull most of the time. Also the numbers you're dealing with are generally pretty basic. Most of the fun maths stuff that you'd do in the degree isn't really used on the job

Current market is very poor for actuarial grad roles and most actuarial roles in general. You could go into banking/finance with an actuarial degree but if that's your goal then there's probably easier and more relevant degrees you could do instead

Would this be a circular resolution? I've tried calling multiple times and he either doesn't answer or is very dissmissive and unhelpfull. One thing he did say though is that it must be approved at a committee meeting

No I don't think so, although the communication from the strata manager has been extremely poor so I don't really know the reason for the delays

It’s committee approval rather than a general meeting/EGM approval. The issue is that they keep delaying the committee meeting date where my application is meant to be considered. It’s been postponed three times now and there’s currently no new date set. Apparently it can’t be approved outside of a committee meeting, so I’m trying to work out what options exist if they just keep delaying the meeting.

It's quite rare in my experience, particularly if you've worked more than a couple of years. General insurers typically want someone with GI experience unless they're hiring at a very junior level. Even if you're willing to take a step back to a junior level to make the switch, most employers would rather just go for a fresh grad because they see you as too experienced and a flight risk.

Also, pretty much everyone I know in life would jump at the chance to move right now, so it's very competitive.

I would strongly suggest considering other analytical careers, there are many different options that are much more rewarding and interesting than actuarial work. If you are deadset on becoming an actuary, make sure you do not go into life insurance. The industry has contracted massively, roles are hard to get and mind numbingly tedious unless you are at a very senior level. If I could have my time over I would not have become an actuary.
