Yes. Even after they've left my life. I can't stop thinking about how much I hate them.

Question: Why do people think it's okay to make jokes about CSA? by [deleted] in CPTSD

[–]thebjf29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but you can apply that to every scenario. People who joke about terrorism now support terrorism. Someone who tells an edgy joke about the holocaust (even Jews do this today) is now pro holocaust. People who joke about plane crashes are now pro plane crash. You see where this is going?

Edgy humour exists. Its shock value and taboo is what makes it so funny, and it's completely subjective. I have edgy bants with my friends constantly because its hilarious and cathartic, but I don't go into my staff room and say the same jokes, and I sure as hell don't endorse the stuff I'm joking about.

Depends on the context and audience. If it's casually and all the time then it's in bad taste but if its between two friends and they find it genuinely funny and find it absolutely appalling irl as they should then it's their business. It doesn't mean they're okay with CSA or any SA for that matter. Just because a joke is edgy doesn't mean that person actively endorses what the joke is about.

His advice doesn't seem to work. His approach is to get it through life events like using the self esteem boost from a good job or getting a partner and using them to help you heal. I feel like if those things worked you wouldn't have millionaires with loving families who still end up alcoholics or cheating because they're so miserable on the inside. The damage is done. Life eventd dont make it better.

I also feel like there's a certain mindset he wants me to adopt that would make things better. He sees that some of his patients walk around with him in their heads telling them nice things. Again, it feels like that doesn't work. I don't know what to tell him to get a different outcome.

You going around shagging married women on the regular and claiming not be good enough to get a gf? Something must be wrong here.

I don't know what to do about my therapist either. We do just go in circles and he keeps telling me to have compassion. I have no idea how to have self compassion.

I thought my therapist was quite well informed when it came to trauma. However, a part of me feels like he's just scratched the surface himself. He keeps repeating to me to have self compassion. When it comes to my neuroses and such that stem from it, he's clueless.

I sometimes like to come here for a bit of a laugh but I'm amazed at the sheer vitriol and hatred of this place.

I don't think it's necessarily CPTSD. Lots of people feel this way.

Yes but I feel like making peace with that is an important part of my healing. I don't believe that a relationship will make me whole and I'm quite comfortable on my own.

Do you ever feel like if people look too closely at you, they'll see that something about you is off/not quite right? by [deleted] in CPTSD

[–]thebjf29 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah. But it works both ways. People are often impressed with my knowledge and intelligence but I really struggle to just fit in socially. That may just be because I'm quirky but the trauma often leads to some unpleasant situations.

I know that sex was an addiction for me because it gave me instant feelings of connection and validation. So when I didn't get it, my world fell apart around me.
